Language Testing Insights by Mrs. Aini

Language testing is used to measure student achievement and development in language skills. It can assess different abilities like achievement, proficiency, or aptitude. Common language tests include oral tests, role plays, and fill-in-the-blank questions. The best test, according to the author, is the oral test because it evaluates understanding over memorization and allows the teacher to observe students' pronunciation, fluency, and problem-solving skills directly.

2. What kind of language test that you used?

3. The best test you ever do?

Answer

According to Mrs. Syafrini Qurotul Aini, [Link], Language testing is a tool to

measure student achievement or activity of developing and using language tests. As a
psychometric activity, language testing traditionally was more concerned with the
production, development and analysis of tests. Recent critical and ethical approaches to
language testing have placed more emphasis on the uses of language tests. The purpose
of a language test is to determine a person’s knowledge and ability in the language and
to discriminate that person’s ability from that of others. Such ability may be of different
kinds, achievement, proficiency or aptitude. Tests, unlike scales, consist of specified
tasks through which language abilities are elicited. The term language assessment is
used in free variation with language testing although it is also used somewhat more
widely to include for example classroom testing for learning and institutional
examinations.

There is so many kind of test that we can use, for example, oral test, an oral
assessment is a direct means of assessing students' learning outcomes by questioning
them. Unlike interviews which usually have a structured question list, oral assessment
does not usually have a structured list of questions, assessors ask questions and request
responses depending on the circumstances. role play, Role play is any speaking activity
when you either put yourself into somebody else's shoes, or when you stay in your own
shoes but put yourself into an imaginary situation! Imaginary people, The joy of role
play is that students can 'become' anyone they like for a short time. And for writing we
can use fill in method, a Fill in the Blank question consists of a phrase, sentence, or
paragraph with a blank space where a student provides the missing word or words. You
can also create a question with multiple blanks.

The best test that her ever do is Oral Test, It’s a better way of testing the
understanding of the content whereas conventional examinations are more geared
towards rote memorization, you can give hints where a piece of information is missing,
which may help students to make other connections. In real life you can google things or
otherwise look it up so it’s not an entirely unrealistic situation. We can know how the
student skills by seeing their performance directly, then we can know how they
pronunciation and fluency, also prevent the possibility of student cheating.
