Track 16: Listening Test for Review B

[J = Jen; R = Rob]
J: Hi, Rob.
R: Oh, hi Jen.
J: What are you doing here? You hate shopping.
R: I know. I usually avoid it, but I’m looking for a present. I need some advice, actually.
J: Oh?
R: Yeah, Wanda, my aunt, is coming tomorrow, from New York. It’s her birthday and I have to
buy her a present from me and my sister.
J: What sort of thing are you looking for?
R: I don’t really know. I don’t know her very well. We’re not that close.
J: Well, what’s she like?
R: She’s a bit older than my dad – maybe five years older. And she’s a successful doctor. She
earns more than anyone in the family. She always gives us lovely presents. She gave me an
iPod for my birthday. I want to get her something nice.
J: What about this bottle of perfume? It’s new.
R: Oh, I don’t know. £11? It’s a bit cheap. Oof. It smells a bit cheap too. She likes more
expensive things.
J: What about this silk scarf?
R: It’s £135!
J: How much do you want to spend, then, Rob?
R: About £25? I’m not working at the moment so I can’t afford to buy anything too expensive …
J: A bunch of flowers?
R: Yeah … good idea.
