Electromagnet and Transformer Examples

This document provides examples of solving problems involving transients, transformers, and complex impedance from past exam papers: 1) An example circuit with an electromagnet, resistor, and power source calculates the maximum resistor value to limit switch transient voltage and the power dissipated by the resistor. 2) Another example calculates the power dissipated in a resistor connected to an electromagnet with a diode, both when the switch is open and closed. 3) A final example determines the complex impedance of a load on a transformer secondary and primary, and calculates the total power drawn from the mains supply.
