The time There are two main ways to tell the time:
In British English:
– The minutes go before the hour. What time is it?
– If it’s before 30 minutes, we join the minutes and the 3:20 = It’s twenty past three.
hour with “past“. 5:45 = It’s (a) quarter to six.
– If it’s past 30 minutes, we use “to” and we say the 10:30 = It’s half past ten.
minutes left to the next hour.
– For times ending in 15 or 45, we say “(a) quarter“.
– For times ending in 30, we say “half”
What time is it?
In American English: it’s easier to tell the time, as we 3:20 = It’s three twenty
simply say the numbers consecutively in the order that 5:45 = It’s five forty-five.
they appear (hour+minutes), without “quarter or “half”. 10:30 = It’s ten thirty.
