2020 PEANUT ACREAGE ESTIMATE - Planted area is estimated at 1.51 million acres in 2020, up 6 percent from 2019. Area for
harvest is forecast at 1.47 million acres, up 6 percent from last year. In Georgia, the largest peanut-producing State, planted area is
up 6 percent from 2019. As of June 21, sixty-four percent of the acreage was rated in good to excellent condition, compared with 67
percent rated in these two categories at the same time last year.

OTHER COMMODITIES – All cotton plantings are estimated at 12.2 million acres, 11 percent below last year. Corn acreage is
UP 3 percent from last year to 92.0 million acres. Soybean acreage was estimated UP 10% to 83.8 million acres. Wheat acreage
was estimated at 44.3 million acres, DOWN 2% from last year, lowest all-wheat planted on record since 1919,
PEANUT STOCKS AND PROCESSING REPORT– USDA’s Peanut Stocks and Processing Report was released June 26, 2020
for the month of May, 2020, the 10th month of the marketing year. The report shows shelled edible grade to date utilization is up
4% from last year.
Peanut stocks in commercial storage as of May 31, 2020 totaled 2.79 billion pounds equivalent farmer stock, compared to
3.08 billion pounds last year, DOWN 9.4%. This total includes 2.09 billion pounds of actual farmer stock, down 10.3% from
last year.
Shelled peanuts on hand farmer stock equivalent totaled 666 million pounds, DOWN 5.3% from last year. Roasted
stocks were 34.9 million pounds, down 19.2% from one year ago. Total shelled peanut stocks showed 501 million pounds of
which 471 million pounds were considered edible grades. Oil stocks totaled 29.4 million pounds, up 38.0% from same time
last year.
Edible stocks of shelled peanuts by type, Virginia & Valencia stocks are at 81.6 million pounds, up 2.0% from last year.
Runners were 226 million pounds, DOWN 8.7% and Spanish totaled 53.5 million lbs, DOWN 8.4%.
In April, shellers milled 389 million pounds, 3.9% more than same month last year.
Commercial processors used 213 million pounds of shelled edible peanuts, 3.9% more than last year.
Government purchases for Nutrition Programs in April totaled 834,000 lbs of peanut butter, DOWN 74.1% compared to
same month last year. However, for the 10 months, government purchases were DOWN 12.9% to 19.4 million lbs.

Use of raw shelled peanuts in primary products in May was led by peanut snacks, up 41% for May vs May 19: 8.8% for the
year. The impact of the Coronavirus pandemic urging families to stay at home and customers are stocking up on snacks.
Peanut butter usage slowed, down 2.3% for the month, but still up 4.9% for the year. Government purchases slowed as no
peanuts were available to fill the order. The industry continues to hold that 4% increase overall.
