Hydraulic Structures Design Techniques

The document discusses the design of hydraulic structures and pile foundations. It examines three cases: a pile at an intermediate point of a structure, a pile at the downstream or upstream end, and a depressed floor structure. Equations are provided to calculate the exit gradient for a depressed floor case based on factors like the floor thickness and length. Design considerations are described for piles depending on their location and the need to prevent scour and erosion around the structures.

CASE 2: pile at D/S or U/S end :

B. U/S PILE

C. Depressed Floor:
Same fig. for example:
Let us take the case of depressed floor ,having thickness d=4m and length
b=10 m .then α =b/d= 10/4=2.5 and 1/α = 1/2.5 = 0.4, from curve φD' =
23.5%
φD1'= 100 - φD' =100-23.5= 76.5%
the exist gradient for the case of depressed floor is given by:
GE= 0.84 / d *PD'
PD' = φD' *H
