Module 1 Assignment 1

After more than two hours and having been inspired by what you had read and watched;
you can now work on these two requirements. You need not do them immediately, take a
break first. You may message a classmate or classmates and discuss a bit your learnings from
the required videos. Sometimes we need to do this to affirm our understanding of issues.

Now that you are back to your energetic self, you can now focus on these two requirements.

I. Opinion. Screengrab your favorite virtual friend’s social media profile picture and paste it
on a blank document where you are going to write your analysis. If you do not have a virtual
friend, ask a classmate to allow you to screengrab the profile picture of one of his/her virtual
friends. Carefully study the details of the profile picture. Guided by what you learned from
the two episodes of GENDER TALKS and the definitions in the reading material, describe
the details of the profile picture that signify the gender of your virtual friend. At first glance of
the profile picture, what meaning would you associate with that profile picture and what is
your initial perception of your virtual friend in that profile picture? You can now hypothesize
about the reasons for your virtual friend to pose in a certain way, to make that facial
expression, to wear that particular type of clothing, to have that kind of background,
foreground, and so on. Don’t forget that you are writing an academic paper so you should
not be using toxic words. Even if you are writing an opinion paper, you still try to balance
things within the limits of the pointers that were cited in the preceding sentences.

II. Self-evaluation. Now reflect on yourself. Are you mindful of what people say about you that
you strictly follow the norms assigned to your socially constructed gender? Or, is your
gender so fluid that you can act in any way you want in response to the situation you are in
and unmindful of the gender where that behavior is classified into and also unmindful of
what other people say about you? Explain why.

The pointers that were identified to guide you in writing your opinion and self-evaluation are
what I will try to see in your output.

Don’t worry, no other people will read your output as you will submit it to me via email.

If one page (single space) is not enough for your output, add another page.

Save your document. File name should be: Family Name_Module1Assignment and send to
mtlumsit@[Link]. Use your student [Link] address when you submit your
assignment. If you have a classmate whose family name is the same with yours, then include
your first name in the file name for your file.

Submit your output on or before 5PM of June 17, 2020.
