Description of the Area of Interest
Though I could see how my other interests had problems begging solutions, I chose to
tackle Self-Improvement. Of my interests listed, this is the one I think of the most.
Specifically, the importance of thought and people learning how to retrain their brain to
think in a way that supports them and the way they want to live. Though I’d narrowed it
down to this subject or Circular Systems, I feel that self-improvement was the best
choice for two reasons, 1) I’m more excited about it and 2) its options felt more
manageable mentally and practically. Entertainment felt too broad in some ways and in
others, not valuable enough, and the Cat Health topic felt too out of my league right
now.
Target Audience
While it seems mental and emotional health are more widely valued and the general
science of our brains becoming more understood and accepted, it’s easy to feel a little
lost when applying certain knowledge to our every-day lives. And books on the matter,
while still highly regarded, aren’t for everyone. For some younger generations, books
can be seen as antiquated “self-help” or as a chore; while for others they’re seen as a
luxury available to those with more time. Any age could theoretically benefit from more
interactive, guided methods of mental management that could be accessed on the go,
and as much or little as they choose.
Projected Outcome and Benefit
In my survey, while many of the specifics were varied, overall one thing was clear and
that is that everyone worked on themselves in some active way. Four out of 5 believed
they would like a more interactive process for doing so. And this exploration springs
from my belief that individuals should have such a tool. Tools that support them in-the-
moment, with general emotions and thoughts that we might otherwise let slide under the
radar with the hope that we or our external situation(s) will eventually change. My aim
would be that the average person who wouldn’t need a qualified therapist or be able to
pay a professional life coach, could have practical guidance and customizable tools to
help them manage their minds and be their own life coach. That these tools could help
people to become more self-loving, self-accepting, self-empowered, and self-aware,
and therefore more mentally capable of handling every-day problems and the emotions
that arise from those. From this, those individuals might not only make their own
lives more enjoyable but also have more positive relationships and interactions with
others.
