Create a Meshed Solid in STAAD.Pro

This tutorial demonstrates how to create a simple meshed solid model in STAAD.Pro using basic features. The steps include: 1) Specifying overall dimensions of 40m x 40m for the model plane 2) Setting a grid spacing of 5m x 5m 3) Drawing the external contour of the solid by clicking vertex points and double clicking the final point 4) Drawing an internal opening by repeating the process of clicking vertex points and double clicking the final point.

Example
Use this procedure to create an example meshed solid which can then be analyzed in [Link].

This tutorial u lizes the basic features of the program in order to familiarize you with the process of crea ng a simple model.
Not all tools or op ons are presented here.

1. Select the New tool on the Model toolbar An empty file is opened.
2. Select the Overall Dimensions tool. The Overal dimension dialog opens.

3. Specify a Width of 40 m and Height of 40 m and then click OK. Leave the plane as XZ. The dimension limits are drawin in
the View window.
4. Select the Grid Op ons tool. The Grid se ngs dialog opens.

5. Specify a X spacing of 5 m and a Z spacing of 5 m and then click OK. The drawing grid is displayed inside the overall
dimensions within the View window.
6. If the Snap to Grid tool is not set, do so.

Tip: When a tool is set, its icon is shown as depressed in the toolbar and in the menu.

7. Select the External Contour tool and click any vertex point as shown in the following figure and table.

8. Con nue clicking adjacent vertex points in either clockwise or counterclockwise order un l the rubber-banded shape
looks like the final shape desired; then double-click the final vertex point.

Tip: You can right-click to undo the previous data point if necessary.

The external contour shape is shaded gray.

9. Select the Internal Contour tool and click any vertex point of the opening showin in the following figure and table.
