psychologically, is becoming a problem in many European cities which are starting to become hostile
to tourists, and this is starting a problem in Australia too.

Pollution in big cities around the world is a major problem and is causing harm to citizens. One
proposed solution is to ban privately owned vehicles from the streets of our cities; however, some
believes that this solution is extreme. This essay will argue that there are good reasons for banning
cars, but in reality it is impractical and a reduction of cars would be a better sollution.
The health of the people who live in the cities is being affected by a huge numbers of cars as levels of
pollution exceed safe limit. For example, people are suffering from respiratory illnesses like asthma
and young children especially are at risk. Studies have found that pollution from vehicles is
responsible for thousands of premature deaths. Thus this sisituation needs to be addressed.
Encouraging people to use alternatives like public tranport or shared vehicles would lead to a
reduction in pollution levels, without requiring a complete ban on cars. Some people need thier
private vehicles for work or because they have mobility problems. A more realistic solution would be
to provide plenty of cheap, green, convinient transport alternatives and incentivize people to give up
thier private vehicles. This would reduce the number of cars while still enabling flexibility.
This essay has discussed the disturbing pollution levels in our cities caused by cars and has looked at a
compromise position that would reduce pollution. In my opinion, a total ban is unrealistic and instead
cheap, green public transport options should be made available.
