CHAPTER-2
AIM AND OBJECTIVE
NEED OF WORK AND STUDY
NEED FOR THE STUDY:
To hurdle these problems, a new dosage form known as fast disintegrating tablets, has been
developed which rapidly disintegrate and dissolve in saliva. These are also termed as mouth
dissolving tablets, montelukast sodium tablets, orally disintegrating tablets, quick
disintegrating tablets, fast dissolving tablets, rapid dissolving tablets, porous tablets, quick
melt tablets and rapid melt tablets.1 According to United States Food and Drug
Administration (USFDA), fast disintegrating tablets are those solid dosage forms containing
medicinal substances or active ingredient which dissolves or disintegrates within a matter of
seconds when placed upon the tongue. Fast disintegrating tablets have greater advantage over
normal tablet dosage form, one of which is, it provides rapid disintegration and absorption
and rapid onset of action. In this formulation the amount of drug going to the first pass
metabolism is reduced by increasing the absorption of drug, in the oral cavity leading to
greater bioavailability.10
OBEJECTIVE OF THE STUDY:
The objectives of the present work are to formulate immediate release tablets to improve the
quality of treatment for the patients suffering from asthma.
To evaluate the drug-excipient interaction by FTIR.
To formulate and evaluate fast dissolving tablets of Montelukast sodium using
combination of natural and synthetic superdisintegrants.
To evaluate the physiochemical parameters of the formulated product.
To determine In-vitro dissolution studies.
To study drug release kinetics.
