ESSAY WRITING COMPETITION ’20
FOR STUDENTS OF ARCHITECTURE & YOUNG ARCHITECTS
1 Participants must register for the competition through

Submission of this Google form shall be considered as
registration.
2 Entries shall be submitted online to
coa.essay2020@[Link] subsequent to registration,
with the subject
‘COA Essay Competition 2020 - Category’.
Last date for submission of entries -
31st May 2020.
3 Essays must be in English, 1000-1500 words for
students’ category and 1500-3000 words for young
architects’ category.
4 Essays must be original and unpublished. Plagiarized
entries will not be accepted. Authors are requested
to check for plagiarism from a trustworthy checking
system.
5 Essays must be written by one or two persons. Essays
co-authored by more than two persons will not be

6 Copyright of all the essays entered, including the

7 All entries have to be submitted as MS Word file (.doc)
format and PDF (.pdf file should be in a readable format
without password or any other protection.
8 The Title of the Essay file shall be written as
COATRC - EWS - 2020 - Author Names.
ex. COA EWC 2020-Name of author 1+Name of author 2.
Name of the authors must NOT be mentioned anywhere
inside the document except on the title of the file.
9 The body of the Essay must include a tab for
important keywords right under the title (these will not
be counted in the word limit but used to classify the
essay domains).
10 The Essay file needs to be composed using the given
guidelines to facilitate easy handling for future
publication -
(a) fonts, type and size
- Title : Calibri, 14 point, Bold
- Headings : Calibri, 11 point, Bold
- Body : Calibri, 11 point, Regular
(b) margins and spacing
- Spacing between lines : 1.0 points
- Margins : Normal i.e. 2.54 cm on all sides
(c) footer details
page numbers must be mentioned at the bottom left
corner of the Essay along with the title of the Essay on
every page.
10 Footnotes may be given where necessary with font
Calibri and size of 8 points.
11 The Essay should be followed by a Bibliography/ List of
references with MLA format of citation.
