My Reflection on Educational Technology
The Educational Technology course is designed to prepare lecturers/students with skills,
concepts and understanding among other skills to integrate technology in the lesson to enhance
learning as well as to ensure a meaningful learning outcome.
This course focuses on the educational use of Information and Communication
Technology; allowing for the balancing of learning theories and educational technology
applications. The course treats fundamentals of planning, design, and production of instructional
multimedia tools. There are opportunities for students to practice and implement educational
media and equipment in a cooperative learning environment and in various micro-teaching
situations.
As a student-teacher learning new tools in technology, it gave me the opportunity to become an
expert in the field, not only using technology efficiently in the classroom with presentational
purposes, but also to develop my own activities which bring as much educational information as
fun in my class. My greatest achievement in this course was learning to create a websites, blogs,
interactive power points and digital stories.
Technology will be a major asset towards my overall development and for future classroom
purposes, as it acts as a motivational aid and a teaching tool to help students/ lecturers achieve
optimal goals. The realms of technology in the classroom have expanded far beyond mere word
processing and basic presentations with images, and technology is now a key tool to motivate
students.
Upon completing this course, it was very challenging at first given the fact that I was learning
new tools in technology in online classes due to the outburst of the pandemic COVID-19, the
pandemic played a major role in the obstacles that I face in completing my course work. I had a
lack of internet access from the beginning of the virus and that in itself put me about ten steps
behind, after weeks without the internet I finally got access by moving to my sister’s house. I
was behind on a number of courses including Ed Tech but with determination and perseverance I
was able to gather all the knowledge and skills I needed to complete my course works.
Completing this course has improve my technology knowledge behond expectation, I am now
creating things on my computer which I had no idea of about four months ago. The various tools
I can use in the classroom to create meaningful learning are interactive power points, blogs and
audios and I would like to applaud my lecturer Mrs. Stoney-James for a job executed in the
highest form, she provided me with the experience and knowledge needed to complete this
course. As a student teacher, completing this course has opened up doors of opportunity in the
technological field and this has boosted my overall confidence in delivering my lessons. This
course had given me more knowledge of the various tools that was at hand. This course has also
taught me the skills and concepts needed to plan effective lessons that meets all the objectives
and learning outcomes despite students different learning styles.
Despite the shortcomings, technology has a tremendous impact upon education today in the era
we are currently in.
With technology in the classroom, students gain greater control of their education and they can
learn at their own pace. One important fact that remains is that no child is the same and every
child learns at their own pace. Integrating technology into the classroom can aid students in
learning at a rate that’s comfortable for them, enabling them to retain information better. For
example, lessons or activities on tablets or laptops give students the opportunity to read
directions, process information, and complete their work at their own pace. This also gives the
teacher time, allowing them to give students extra assistance and attention when it is needed. As
the world becomes increasingly reliant on the use of technology, we have a responsibility to
teach children how to incorporate it into their learning. It is an added bonus that research shows
that using technology in the classroom motivates children to learn.
As I continue to reflect, I have come to realization that the advantages of using technology in
the classroom are many both inside and outside the basic classroom. In the class, on the other
hand, I have experienced that the use of technology, when efficiently applied, can bring variety
rising motivation and attention in the students and may change attitudes towards learning.
After months of attending this class I had come to a realization that the implementation of
technology in schools helps close that gap. Technology has the ability to enhance relationships
between teachers and students. ... Technology helps make teaching and learning more
meaningful and fun. Students are also able to collaborate with their own classmates through
technological applications.
