BRIDGE DESIGN
ECQ#1: LOAD COMPUTATIONS
Materials:
Normal weight concrete, f'c = 35 Mpa
Wearing surface: = Asphalt Concrete
Thickness of future wearing surface = 60 mm
Thickness of integral wearing surface = 12 mm

Design Parameters:
Bridge Length = 30 m
Lane Width (two-lane road) = 4000 mm
No. of Girders = 5 Girders Parapet Parameters:
Deck top cover = 40 mm 200
Deck bot cover = 25 mm
Normal Conc. unit weight = 22736 N/cu.m
Future wearing surface unit weight = 22050 N/cu.m
Load modifier, ɳ = 1.0 - 1000
Reinforcement Diamerer, mm = 36 mm

SOLUTION:
Girder Spacing, S = [(2 x 4000) / (5- 1)] = 2000 mm
275
Bridge Dimensions:
1. Overhang width (50% of Girder Sapcing) 2. DC of Parapet
Woverhang = 0.50 x S = 1000 mm Areaparpet = 0.5 x 0.1000 x (0.200 + 0.275)
Areaparapet = 0.2375 sq.m
2. Slab thickness
Design depth = overall depth - sacrificial surface DCparapet = ɣpar (Area) (1m-strip)
Design depth = 250 - 12 = 238 mm = 22736 (0.2375) (1m)
DCparapet = 5399.8 N
Overall depth = 250 mm
Sacrificial surface = 12 mm 3. DC of Slab
tslab (Simple Span) = 1.2(S + 3000)/30 = 1.2(2000+3000)/30 DCslab = ɣslab (designdepth) (1m-strip)
tslab (Simple Span) = 200 mm DCslab = 22736 (0.238m) (1m-strip)
tslab total = tslab+bot. cover+Dia. RSB/2
= 200 + 25 + 36/2 DCslab = 5411.168 N/m
= 250 mm
*Note: Minimum depth and cover = 175 mm DCmisc = DCslab x 5%
Minimum overhang thickness= 200 mm DCmisc = 5411.168 N/m x 0.05
DCmisc = 270.558 N/m
DEAD LOADS: (1m strip)
1. Solving DW (w/c is thicker) DCtotal = DCslab + DCmisc + DCform
DW = ɣFWS x thickness x 1m-strip *note: No Stay-in-place formworks
DW = 22050 (0.060) (1m) DCtotal = (5411.168 + 270.5584) N/m
DW = 1323.00 N/m DCtotal = 5681.726 N/m
