Solar System
Learning Objectives
Students will be able to identify the planets in
the Earth's solar system. Students will be able to
determine the position of the planets from the
sun.
Sun - is the star at the center of the Solar
System.
Mercury – Mercury is the closest planet to the
sun. As such, it circles the sun faster than all the
other planets, which is why Romans named it
after their swift-footed messenger god.
Venus - The hot, hellish & volcanic planet |
Space.
Venus, the second planet from the sun, is
named after the Roman goddess of love and
beauty and is the only planet named after a
female.
Earth - OUR HOME planet, is a world
unlike any other. The third planet from the sun,
Earth is the only place in the known universe
confirmed to host life.
Mars - is the fourth planet from the Sun and the
second-smallest planet in the Solar
System after Mercury.
Jupiter – is the fifth planet from the Sun and
the largest in the Solar System.
Saturn - is the sixth planet from the Sun and the
second-largest in the Solar System, after Jupiter.
Uranus - is the seventh planet from the Sun. It
has the third-largest planetary radius and fourth-
largest planetary mass in the Solar System
Neptune - is the eighth and farthest
known planet from the Sun in the Solar System.
Pluto is an icy dwarf planet in the Kuiper belt, a
ring of bodies beyond the orbit of Neptune.
