Reflection
This year was the most educational one yet and has shown me my full capability. I now
understand the true essence of writing and what can happen when you feel passionate when one
is in the process of writing something. My biggest achievement this year was grasping the
importance of grammar and how it can change and polish an essay. I am beyond grateful for my
writing teacher and my class because they have helped me grow as a writer and especially as a
person.
Throughout this year I will admit I was lazy and procrastinated to the fullest.
Nevertheless, as the year progressed, I became more motivated in my studies and was showing
growth in subjects, and to me the biggest leap this year was in writing. Not only have I
developed a more formal tone that is of great importance to an academic career, but I have also
improved on word choice, sentence structure, and presentation skills. Furthermore, I realize that I
have faced multiple challenges and hardships this year, especially with expository essays. Which
have affected me in the past as well as this year, I am quite proud to say that I can easily write an
expository essay without having to worry about it.
Another hardship I faced was that with sentence structure and fluency. I have struggled
with this throughout the past several years and it comes as a major disadvantage. It certainly
made my writing pieces worse and took the focus off my main purpose. It confused the audience
and was a definite conflict this year. This was purely because of my lack of editing which I also
learned the prominence of over the course of the year. Revising, editing, drafting, should have
been all I was doing; although, I have only come to that realization later in the year which makes
me ponder how much better I could have done my essays in previous years.
One thing that I have discovered about myself this year, is that absolute creative control
for me is the key to create an interesting story for any audience there is, and for the years to
come I want to go in and out of that comfort zone exploring all aspects of writing to my full
capability. All in all, I would want to improve in writing because this year I have found out that I
find peace and comfort in it. I want to thank my teacher because he helped me improve in
technical aspects of writing I have never even thought about and to see my pieces now from
previous years I am truly appalled on what I would do without these skills. This year was a true
leap in my academic life and now I hope to improve in writing with all the lessons and skills I
have learned this year.
