Chapter III
RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODOLOGY
This chapter presents the research method used in the conduct of the present
study. It also focuses on the sources of data, respondents, instrumentation, data
gathering procedure as well as the statistical tools used in determining the Instructional
Capability of TLE/TVL Teachers in Salvacion National High School.
Research Method
A descriptive – evaluative method of research was used in the conduct of the
present undertaking. The study evaluated the Instructional Capability of TLE/TVL
Teachers in Salvacion National High School and the facilities used in the teaching and
learning process.
Sources of Data
The study made use of the primary and secondary data. The primary data came
from the respondents who were given checklists and questionnaires. Other sources of
data included the records which were available in the Principal’s Office of SNHS.
Relevant secondary sources of data are books, magazines and internet that provide
relevant information to the present endeavor.
Respondents
The respondents of this study were the total number of industrial technology
teahcers of Salvacion National High School form different specializations. The
researcher selected 50 students of each area of TLE subject to serve as respondents
who assessed the instructional capability of the TLE/TVL teachers and the adequacy of
their facilities. The distribution of student respondents is shown in Table 1.
Table 1
Distribution of Student-Respondents
TLE/TVL Specialization Number of Respondents
Shielded Metal Arc Welding 50
Computer Systems Servicing 50
Electrical Installation and Maintenance 50
Dress Making 50
Information and Communications 50
Technology
Home Economics 50
Total 300
Instrumentation
In this study, the researcher adopted questionnaires form McBean 1for the three
groups of respondents who assessed the teaching effectiveness of the TLE/TVL
teachers as well as the adequacy of facilities.
Data Gathering Procedure
The researcher began conducting the study by sending a letter of request
addressed to the Principal of Salvacion National High School for data collection.
Likewise, the researcher asked permission to the Technology Teachers to conduct the
study. Questionnaires for teachers, and students were distributed and collected
personally.
Statistical Treatment
The statistical tools were used on data analysis are frequency count, percentage
and Weighted Mean on the adequacy of facilities and on the teaching effectiveness of
teachers in their area of specialization in TLE/TVL subject. Formula in finding the
2
weighted mean is taken from the book of Eddie See.
Formula:
Weighted Mean
£f x
X=
£f
X = weighted mean
£ f x = Sum of all Frequency
multiplied by weight
£ f = Total Number of respondents
