Dear Sir or Madam:


In my Research Paper, I hope to answer the question: How does involvement in youth athletics psychologically
and socially affect children in the present and the future? This topic was a point of interest to me for numerous
reasons. When I started playing sports I was very young, I was always thinking about why my parents didn’t let
me commit to a single sport when I was younger and why they always had me be so active. Further down the
road, I was thinking about what would have happened if I played the same sport from a very young age or what if
I started lifting when I was younger. With this in mind, I decided to focus on the effect of athletics on young
children.

The Experiential Project I have chosen is to start a series of open gyms for boys volleyball at Foothill middle
school. I decided to do this because I really wanted there to be a boys’ volleyball program when I went to school
to Foothill Middle School. For my mentor, I am talking to Mrs. Silva. She used to be the JV coach for the
women’s volleyball program at Northgate. She will help get the gym times at foothill so that I can get out there
and help coach up the young guys.

This will be challenging for me because it will require a lot of time commitment out of school, I currently have to
focus on choir and the high school volleyball season, however, it is a challenge that I am willing to take. At the
end of my project, my Digital Portfolio will detail the entire experience: the research conducted, the project
experience, and my volunteer commitment. I expect to help the boys at Foothill to increase their passion for
sports, I also want to show the improvements they have made through the course of the next couple weeks.
