W11 Interview Project 04: Early and Middle Adulthood

Name: Juliana
Age: 19
Gender of person: Female
Relationship: Cousin
Interview

1. Describe a typical day.

Interviewer: Okay so first question, describe your typical day,

Juliana: Mm, well right now I am doing everything from home due to the coronavirus

crisis. But on a regular basis I wake up around 5:30am, take a shower and get ready to go

to school. I have a 7:00am class, and you know traffic here is crazy. So, I rush to class in

the mornings I normally spend all day at school and have lunch there, I come back home

at around 4-5, and then I get to doing projects and photography stuff. I have dinner and

go back to bed and like that from Monday to Friday.

2. What activities do you enjoy most?

Awesome, sounds pretty tiring though! Question number 2 is what activities do you enjoy

most?

Well I study photography, so everything related to it just kills me. I love watching series

on Netflix when I catch a break from school. I am really into taking pictures of nature and

life, so I spend most my life looking at things I can take pictures of.

I also really enjoy listening to music and going to walk outside.

3. What activities do you enjoy least?

Okay sounds sweet, what activities do you enjoy least?

I dislike going to meetings when we have to have group meetings. I hate waiting for

public transportation, there is not a lot I don’t like, I dislike having to watch sports, I

enjoy playing them but not watching them.

4. Describe your best friend. What qualities does he/she have?

Now describe your best friend. What qualities do they have?

Juliana: My best friend’s name is Cesar, he is 30 years old. He is very sweet because

right now he is bald and he has a big beer belly, he has a weird beard because it is red and

he has dark hair. But as a person he is the most noble person I have ever met, as well as

humble. I consider him as my best friend because he has been through thick and thin with

me. He is super funny. Even when I am mad he knows how to make me laugh. I love

him, he gives me lots of food all the time. He even pays attention to me when I talk to

him about guys I like.

Interviewer: Sounds amazing, why is he so much older, how did you meet?

Juliana: Well we met at a job I used to have and became friends instantly, he was like a

father figure in the beginning.

5. What is your greatest achievement thus far in life?

Number 5 what is your greatest achievement so far in life?

Juliana: I guess being head of the department where I used to work. And earning people’s

respect by being their friend. I feel like that is not something most people do at such a

young age.

Interviewer: Oh, that sounds amazing…

6. What is your greatest regret thus far in life?

Okay next question, what is your greatest regret so far in life?

Juliana: Is it bad if I say that I regret nothing?

Interviewer: No, I don’t think it is. But why do you say so?

Juliana: Some people regret bad things that happen in their lives and to me all those bad

things became positive by learning through them.

Interviewer: Great view on life.

7. What are you looking forward to in the near future (within the next year)?

Juliana: I want to have a stable economic life and be able to stop depending on a salary. I

don’t want to get coronavirus. And I am meeting a new person that came into my life so I

want to get to know what happens with him as well.

Interviewer: Awwww

Juliana: I know cheesy, but true.

8. What are you looking forward to in the far future (5, 10, or 20 years down the road)?

That’s good. Last question, what are you looking forward to in the far future like, 5, 10,

or 20 years down the road?

I want to stop being an employee, have my own company, travelled the world as much as

possible. If I am successful I want to be able to help a lot of people. I want to have a

Mercedes Benz AMGTR. I want to meet the right person, and do all the things I

mentioned with that person. I don’t know how many children I want to have, but I do

want them. And I wish my mom would be able to get to meet them once I do.
Analysis

Physical Development

Juliana is in the beginning of early adulthood as a 19-year-old. In regard to her physical

development she is on track, she is a little bit small for most women, but she is just fine. Juliana,

does no physical exercise whatsoever but she says she would want to. She does not smoke, or

partake of any other harmful substances but does drink on weekends from time to time which is

another thing that contributes to her overall health.

Cognitive Development

Juliana’s thinking continues to develop and one of the areas where it is developing further

is her epistemic cognition. Epistemic cognition is “our reflections on how we arrived at facts,

beliefs, and ideas” (p. 456). The development of epistemic cognition moves from dualistic

thinking, to relativistic thinking, to commitment within relativistic thinking (pp. 456-457). I have

seen how this thinking has been evolving for [Interviewee]. She is respectful of others, is open to

other’s ideas, but knows how to remain true to herself. I admire that about her. [Interviewee] is

currently pursuing an associate’s degree. She thought about giving up on college completely, but

decided to at least get an associate’s and go from there. With young adults dropping out, I admire

that she decided not to. Taking all of this into consideration I would say that [Interviewee] is

slightly advanced in her cognitive development.

Social Development

She is a very social yet at the same time shy young women. And there is nothing wrong

with that, it is just part all of this and it is part of who she is, I would dare to say that Juliana’s

social development is slightly delayed. She has never had a stable relationship because she is too
shy to speak to others, and shuts out very often. We have learnt when Sternberg explains how

love builds from passionate love, to companionate love, to compassionate love, that there are

different types of love, and she displays difficulties expressing them.

Emotional Development

Juliana is a very resilient person, she has been through a lot in her life and still finds a

way to persevere through adversity. Not everyone has been through what she has been through.

In my opinion, she is very shy and held back, but she has found a way to channel a lot of

tribulation into good things. This way improving her emotional development.
