Reflection Paper
I was so excited to finally be in a classroom observing amazing teacher’s teaching. I have

wanted to be a teacher since Junior High. This is just one step away from me getting my

certification to teach. While I was in the classroom, I was trying to soak everything in, so when I

finally do get my own classroom, I would be the very best I can be.

I observed at Justiss Elementary with Mrs. Denise Williams First grade class. Mrs.

Williams is a very patient teacher, she teaches Elar, and for most of her lessons she uses a lot of

exciting interesting videos to help grab the student’s attention for the lesson she is doing for the

day. The students in her classroom really love the videos she uses.

I learned how to break the lesson down into small pieces and teach it step by step in small

parts for the students to really understand the lesson as a whole. Mrs. Williams is really great at

making sure she explains her lessons thoroughly for her first grade class to really grasp it. I will

be taking that with me to my classroom as a teacher. The way she explains her lessons and

breaks them down is amazing. She always has a video to go along with her lessons, too. Her

lessons were always teacher centered where she was teaching the classroom. She did activities

with the students, but with it being first grade, she never let the students teach the lessons.

I had a good experience in this classroom, there were some very tuff students in this

classroom. Even a couple of fist fights between some students, but that did not scare me away! I

still want to be a teacher, I don’t think anything will ever get in the way of me wanting to be

become a teacher.

Mrs. Williams had a positive effect on her students. She never belittled her students and

she always praised them and gave them little treats and prizes when they mastered a tough lesson

or moved up a reading level. She never showed any negativity in her classroom. When the

students would be negative, she would turn it into something positive. Mrs. Williams used more

of a visual learning style in her class she used a lot of drawings and examples of what the

students would be doing “on your own” work for a grade. If they saw what they had to do, they

usually did better on there grades, so she does mostly visual learning styles for her students.

I have learned so much from being in Mrs. Williams first grade class and loved every

minute I was in there. I always knew I wanted to be a teacher, but I never really knew the

structure of a classroom. Of course, I was a student in public school, but I never had the

experience of being a teacher in a classroom before. I have so many great ideas I will be bringing

from her into my own classroom. I can’t be more excited.
