Writing in Design: Key Uses and Tips

Writing is used in corporate design for initial promotion of firms and products. This includes designer biographies, press releases, and project proposals. Designer biographies should be exciting resumes about accomplishments. Press releases should answer who, what, when, where, and why about newsworthy events. Project proposals should spell out furnished work, capabilities, project background/requirements, technical specifications, and costs.

WHERE is writing used within design?

Corporate design

Initial promotion of your firm/ company/ self and a product you can offer to promote clients.

- Designer biographies (written about you, not by you)

Essentially- resumes are canceled- “there is no reason why someone's obituary should be
more exciting than their biography was when they were alive”

- Press releases-
Who is subject
What happened that is newsworthy
When did the event occur
Where did the event occur
Why is it a newsworthy event- relate it to the audience

- Project proposals
“It's important to spell out exactly what you are furnishing in the proposal”
Capabilities statement
Project overview
- Background
- Work requirement
Technical requirement
Cost proposal
