significant figures, of the shaded region.
[Area of a circle = r2] [Jan99/Q6/M8]
5. Figure shows a cross-section of a horizontal cylindrical pipe of centre O and of radius 17 cm.

(c) the area, in cm2, of AOB.
(d) the area, in cm" to 3 significant figures, of the shaded region.

(i) the length, in cm, of TC.
(ii) the area, in cm2, of the shaded region.[Jan01/Q10/M11]
7. In figure, AMENC is a straight line. The semicircle ABC has centre E, the semicircle AFE has centre Mand

(a) show that the perimeter of the shaded region = 2r. [3]
(b) Find, in terms of and r, an expression for the area of the shaded region.

Given that the numerical value of the perimeter of the shaded region = the
numerical value of the area of the shaded region,
(c) find the value of r. [Jan05/Q5/M7]

9. Figure shows a cuboid made from metal with edges of length 12 cm, 12 cm
and 2 cm. The shaded parts are to be removed to produce an octagonal nut.

to form the hole.
The four comers are now removed. Each comer has a cross-section which is
an isosceles triangle whose shorter sides are of length 4 cm.
(b) Calculate the volume, in cm3, of the total metal removed from the four comers.
(c) Calculate the volume, in cm3 to 3 significant figures of the octagonal nut.
