Q.1 A vector field S is expressed in Cartesian coordinates as S= {125/ [(x-1)2 + (y-2)2 + (z+1)2]}
{(x-1) ax + (y-2) ay + (z+1) az}.
(a) Evaluate S at P (2, 4, 3).
(b) Determine a unit vector that gives the direction of S at P.
(c) Specify the surface f(x, y, z) on which |S| = 1.
Q.2 The three vertices of a triangle are located at A (6,-1, 2), B (-2, 3,-4) and C (-3, 1, 5). Find:
(a) RAB (b) RAC (c) The angle θBAC at vertex A (d) the vector projection of RAB on RAC.
Q.3 The three vertices of a triangle are located at A (6,-1, 2), B (-2, 3,-4) and C (-3, 1, 5). Find:
(a) RAB ×RAC (b) The area of the triangle (c) A unit vector perpendicular to the plane in
which the triangle are located.
Q.4 A vector field is specified as G = 24xyax + 12(x2 + 2)ay + 18z2az. Given two points, P(1,
2,−1) andQ(−2, 1, 3), find:
a) G at P: G(1, 2,−1)
b) a unit vector in the direction of G at Q: G(−2, 1, 3)
c) a unit vector directed from Q toward P
d) the equation of the surface on which |G| = 60
Q.5 Verify that vector field Á= yz i^ x + zx i^ y + xy i^ z is irrotational and solenoidal.
Q.6 Show that the divergence of the curl of any vector field is zero. Justify the statement with
one example.
Q.7 Explain Cross Product & Dot Product in detail.
Q.8 Explain Position and distance vectors with suitable example.
Q.9 Curl free vector is an irrotational field, which is a conservative field also. Justify
