The Presentation
Thank you very much. Now, I am Speaker X- Li xing. As Joy said before, the
countries around the world can be divided into not culturally diversified group and
vice versa. So now, I am going to present about the multicultural nations. We can see
in this country cases, the most multicultural nations include the Democratic Republic
of the Congo, Togo, Nigeria, Cameroon, and Chad, as well as other African countries,
due to their numerous languages and tribal groups. Which means a country speaking
different languages is one of the feature of multiculturalism.
Move on. As we can see this map here. Canada is the only single Western nation
which breaks into the front 20 most multi-cultural countries (Morin, 2013).
Next, Multiculturalism is also a social fact in Canada. Firstly, there were many
different kinds of languages in the country, with the most common ones including
Irish, French, Scottish, English, and Canadian, followed by Indian Italian, Chinese
and so on. Secondly, As we can see this graph, According to the 2016 Census, 7.5
million foreign-born people came to Canada through the immigration process. They
represented more than 1 in 5 people in Canada. In 2011 to 2016, the percentage of
immigrants to Canada was 16.1%. And More than 200 places of birth were reported
by immigrants in Canada. Such as Philippines, India, china, and so on. (ok)
Let’s move on to the detail about multiculturalism in Canada, as we can see this
picture, Canada has multiculturalism day which is on June 27th every year. and such
event indicate the emphasize by Canada on multiculturalism and the respect of the
country for the culturally diversified groups of people. Moreover, Canada has two
official languages (English and French ) which recognizes 认出 their equal status 地
位 throughout 自 始 自 终 the country. It also shows how learning and teaching of
languages can most effectively support multiculturalism, through distinguishing the
great differencess between conversational and academic language.
Finally, I would like to talk about the advantages of multiculturalism in Canada. First
at all, Multiculturalism in Canada improves social inclusion. Compared to any other
Western country citizens, Canadians are more likely to view immigrants as essential
to their identity. Most Canadians are very proud of the diversity in the country.
Secondly, the economic benefits. With so many international students choosing to
study in Canada each year, is no wonder that they, except the educational benefits that
bring along, they’re considered to be a decent income into Canadian economy. In
addition, immigrants who permanently live there, cover with experts a wide range of
works in many industries. Such as transportation, communications and banking which
helps them into the labour market.
Thank you very much. I have finished my part, next XXX will continue the
presentation.
