Chapter 2 End Questions:
1. Differentiate between a research idea and a research question.
Research questions must fulfill the objectives of the study. To provide a
framework of investigation for the study. The answers to which questions forms the
findings or the results. While the research topic provides insight into the concept of
the study to alert everyone and increase public awareness.
2. Create a conceptual framework for a research project.
“Proposed alternative adhesive binder for aggregates and asphalt in roads and
highways.” Most of the adhesive binders used in roads and highways are said to be
harmful for the people's health. This will not affect the people right away but in long
term conditions based on studies.
3. Detail a strategy, using the four frameworks approach to research, to source
appropriate literature.
Using the conceptual framework where it contained research questions, hypothesis
and statement the researcher can formulate a good key concept that will let him go
through the next framework which is the theoretical framework where it contained
literature review from local to foreign literature that will serves as a reference for the
research. Then the Methodology framework where it contained the research method
used in the research to make the paper systematized to which the idea will go to.
Lastly the Analytical framework where the findings and results must adds up
accordingly especially if it is a quantitative type of research.
4. Detail, describe and explain some of the different approaches to research.
Research approaches can be divided into three types. Deductive research approach
tests the hypothesis or theory or even assumptions if it is valid. While Inductive
research approach contribute to the new theories and generalization of knowledge.
Lastly, Abductive research approach starts with facts then turned into a puzzle-like
knowledge where the research process is solely to support the explanation.
5. Visit the library and find copies of theses which report research projects which
students in your university have carried out using case study and survey
methodologies. Be critical in your examination of these projects. Critique the
theses in terms of their overall quality. Critically examine the standard of
writing in the theses. Critically examine the bibliographies in the theses.
I have found a copy of thesis entitled "proposed water drainage system using
rectangular open channel as water mitigation in reyes compound silang, cavite". The
researchers did a fair job in their research. They have a good objective, concept and a
a recommendation for the future researchers to use.
6. Read the research statements or questions or hypotheses. As conceptual
frameworks for their research projects, how well do you think they work?
The researchers did a fair job in stating and posing the problem in their research
questions. This is vital for the research because this will serve a guide for the
research. Key concept can be easily found if the researchers have a good research
questions.
7. Read the research methodology chapters. What initial thought do you have
about them?
The choice of methodology that has been used was appropriate to the agenda of the
research. It does not restaten its problem. It doesn't provide information how it
generate or gathered data. It did not cite any sources for the methodology.
8. What research methodology was used?
The researchers used an action research method. In this kind of study, the
researchers attempted to resolve or to apply immediate solution to the problem of one
community. This method was used to determine the ways to develop the solution they
found for the problem.
9. What was the population of the research?
The proposal was intended for the Reyes Compound, Brgy. Sitio Ibaba consisting
of 240 residents. The compound is still increasing in population. So the expected
minimum population would be 300 residents including the unregistered residents.
10. Was a sample used, and if so what sampling method was used?
The researchers used stratified sampling method because the research methodology
that they have used was a action research method. Stratified sampling method was
appropriate because the action plan must be organized. For a research problem that
they have, the numbers must always adds up in their finding so that there will be no
erroneous outcome emerge.
11. How is the sampling method described? Is enough detail given to allow the
reader to critically evaluate the method used?
Though they have the appropriate sampling method, they lack enough detail to
allow the reader to critically evaluate the method used. Their main problem is how
they present the collecting and gathering of data. That leads to confusion in their
conclusion in the research.
12. What data collection methods were used?
The data collection method used in the research are observation, gathering of
narrative report, statistical method, visual method and quantitative method.
