Ship Trim Calculation Methods

Change of trim is the difference between the initial and final trim of a ship, defined as the change in draught forward plus the change in draught aft. The trimming moment, measured in tonne-metres, is equal to the weight shifted multiplied by the distance of shift. The change of trim in centimeters is calculated as the trimming moment divided by 100 times the moment to change trim by 1 cm. This moment is approximately equal to the displacement multiplied by the height of the longitudinal metacentre above the center of buoyancy, divided by 100 times the ship length.
