Last time, we discussed about
conditional sentence which is the
“first conditional “right?.
Before we proceed to our next -First conditional sentence talk
topic, let us first define what first about things which might happen

I will divide the class into two
groups, this will be the group 1,
and this will be the group two.
I have here a box and I want you to
choose four pictures inside.

Now here’s the question, I want you
to use your imagination ok?
Imagine all of you were stuck in an
island and you only have those 4
objects, how would you use it to (Students will play the game with

Now I want you to discuss it in your Matches- We can build fire with
group, I will give you 3 to 5minutes matches.
and after that four representatives Tent- We can use it as a shelter.

Now, what is second conditional
sentence structure?
Please read it ms. . . - Second conditional is when we
are thinking about a situation in
the present or future that is
hypothetical (which is untrue at

So The structure of second
conditional is:
If+ past simple, would+ verb

We can also replace the modal verb
would to might, may could.
We use past verb though we are
imagining present or future to be
different.
For example:
If I won the lottery, I would travel
around the world.
Is it unlikely to happen?
It is unlikely/ doubtful that I will
win a lottery, but I’m going to
imagine that I did win. So in order
for me to travel around the world,
What do I need?
You need to win the lottery first.
Very good. I need to win the lottery
first.
Another example :
If I were you, I would look for a
new job.
Where is past simple?
Isn’t it the simple past form of verb
be is was?But here I use were

In second conditional, We use were
instead of was is because the
sentence is in the subjunctive mood.
Although we can also use was, but
it is formal to use were in second
conditional sentence.
We can also reverse the order
Would +verb +if +past simple
For example:
I would travel the world If I won ten
million dollars.
I would look for a job If I were you.
Can anyone give me some

I would be happy If I married
Mary.
If I became rich I would buy a
car.
Correct. If I knew his name, I would tell

Individual Activity
So for this activity, I have here different
objects, First one.. oww.. a sash of miss
universe,,, Ok if you were the Miss
universe, What could you contribute to
our country. So I want you to stay in
front I will give you time to think..
Next, oh we have the picture of our
president, Mr.. If you were the
President, What would be your
program for the Filipinos?, Pls align
with our miss universe.
Another, If you could fly like Superman,
Where would you go?
Oh Merry Christmas, Ms. If you were If I were the President..
Santa Claus, What kind of gift would
you give to the children
If I could fly like Superman..
Remember to use second conditional
sentence, alright?

for the rest I want you to take notes of

Role playing
For this activity, I will be using
different objects like crowns, sash, If I were a movie character..
cape, pictures. I will ask question base
on the objects and they will take notes
of the answers of their classmate in
order for them to reverse the form.
I will come up with the following
questions: (Students will make the reverse
form.)

would you go?
If you were Santa Claus, what kind of
gift would you give to children?
If you were the Miss Universe, what
will be you program for the youth?
If you were a movie character, which
character would you be?

answers? What you’re going to do now
is to reverse their answers.

Now let’s have a recap of what we have

IV. EVALUATION
So lastly, I want you to analyze the pictures or the scenarios, and I want you to
construct second conditional sentence form the following scenarios. For example,
this picture.. if your house was on fire, or maybe if you were inside the house.. I want
you to write your answers on a sheet of paper. I want you to construct at least 3
sentences from the pictures.
I want you to pass your paper on the center isle at the count of Five.

Construct second conditional sentence from the following pictures or scenarios.
If your house was on fire…
If you saw a robbery or an assault…
If you are alone in a dessert..

Complete the Conditional Sentences (Type II) by putting the verbs into the
correct form. Use conditional WOULD in the main clause.
