2. How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?
The aim of my media product was to inform and educate the potential audience about the documentary
topic. The message trying to be conveyed was the vast presence of fashion stereotypes in society and
how these affect everyday lives. To promote my media product, it was necessary to design a newspaper
advertisement (poster) and radio trailer to target my audience.

effect.

to view the documentary.
This is the finalized image of my advertisement. The poster needed to be eye catching and not too
complicated yet convey an idea of the documentary subject. I decided to capture a picture of a young
student posing. This was mandatory to correspond with our target audience of the young generation,
15-28 year olds, of who look up to and model themselves on famous figures. The participant in my
advertisement posed to display a connotation of what fashion is all about to many people; to
enhance others attention and retrieve credit for their efforts. I used college as the location because
I required a clear background so time could be saved when editing the image in Photoshop . Using a
gradient and experimenting with colours, I thought this had a positive effect on my picture as
opposed to using the original. The section of the picture highlighted is the participant dressed in
stylish clothing as this is what the documentary is produced around. I used the Helvetica font
for the information with dark colours added to gain attention from readers and a large, stylish
font for the title to correspond with the documentary topic. This design would give the
audience a feel for what the topic is however the title ‘Fashion Tribes’ would create curiosity as
to what the documentary is specifically about and hopefully attract them to view the piece.

soundcloud.
For my second ancillary task I had to create a radio trailer to promote the product on a wider scale. To
be enabled to do this I had to write a script to last approximately a minute. I recorded my voice on a
voice recorder and whilst editing included quotes from the documentary interviews. This would give the
audience an idea of what the documentary will contain. I began the trailer with a clear cut quote
regarding the topic of the fashion debate and also used the music from the documentary to symbolise
the collective media products. The voice over complete with this upbeat, consistent theme is effective
for the young audience and compliments the topic well.
Technological convergence, the merging of technologies, will be very helpful in broadening the ability of
reaching my target audience. Newspapers such as The Sun converging online by producing their own
website will increase the opportunity of targeting my audience. This connectivity encourages a larger
amount of people to be able to view the poster online as well as in the hard copy. This can include
mobile phones
The use of a radio trailer is advantageous as it will be advertised to people who may be listening to the
radio maybe in their car or at home. Due to many young people dressing like their singer role models,
this trailer will be effective on these specific radio channels. The topic being discussed in the
documentary and being situated around in the trailer will hopefully appeal to many people due to its
rarity.
Minus the ancillary tasks the main product would have been hopeless because there would have been
no communication of the relevant viewing information such as the date and time. Having the chance to
create both tasks, I was capable of targeting my audience more efficiently.
