This homework assignment asks students to create symbolic suitcases for the people they are studying for a biography project. Each suitcase should contain 5-10 items that symbolize important aspects of that person's life, but should not include the person's name. Students can find items around their house or make representations to include in the suitcase. Homework April 3rd – 10th


Description:
Each student will create a symbolic suitcase for the
person he or she is studying for the biography project.
This suitcase will contain
5-10 items that symbolize an important event, job, characteristic, or other aspect of the person’s
life. DO NOT put the person’s name on the suitcase, because it will be a mystery to solve who each
case belongs to.

Items for the suitcase can be found around the house (toy cars, clothing, cooking utensils), created
with items around the house (TP roll periscope), printed pictures, OR purchase. IT IS NOT
NECESSARY TO SPEND MONEY ON THIS PROJECT. For kids that do not have a real suitcase
available, we will be making cardboard ones at school.

Greetings detectives!

You have a mystery to solve. You


will each be given a biography that
contains information about a historical
figure. Each historical figure left a suitcase
behind. It is your job to use the clues from the
biography to locate his or her missing
suitcase. Inside the suitcases are objects that are
symbols for something important from the subject's
life. Solve this mystery and get a prize!

Steps:
1. Read the biography
2. Mark important information (highlight, circle, etc.)
3. Bring your biography to the Mystery Suitcase presentation
4. Browse the suitcases for a suitcase you think might
belong to your historical figure.
5. You may ask "Yes" or "No" questions to the students

When you have discovered the suitcase that belongs to your


historical figure, give it to the student and claim your
prize from a teacher!
