Reflection Paper Assignment
If technology was the way of the future, then we are the future. We live breathe and see by the
mechanical bones of the screens before us. And of course the trees, the flowers, the sky are still
all as lovely as ever. Learning how to properly use technology is a necessity, with the likes of
word, excel, powerpoint, digital photo and video editing, programming, clear presenting (under
C.R.A.P.), and everyday navigation of the Internet and the tools therein. In EDT 180, three
objectives guided me along as I navigated and learned of these facets of technological use.
These three objectives are ‘approach new computer-based tasks more easily and with greater
confidence’, ‘describe key terms and concepts associated with computers and software
applications’, and ‘demonstrate your ability to use computer applications for productivity, data
analysis, and problem solving.’
To begin, I will highlight an example in which all three of these objectives have been met. And
you are watching it happen now. I feel confident opening Word, beginning typing in Word,
fidgeting with the home settings in the tabs above the text, and as you read this know you can
see that I productively used the Word computer application.
Of all the applications and processed I poured time and learning energy into this semester, my
favorites fell with the digital photo and video editing projects. What a joy to take a photograph
and creatively manipulate the image, finding the editing app software as the stepping brink from
reality to a dream conjured image. I enjoyed putting glow, borders, altering color sliders and
finding the image I began with must have been resting with an open eye, waiting for the creative
impulse and hands of technology to capture its dream. With video, the reality of the world before
us is condensed into a malleable form from which, by the right software tools, are controllers of

time, space. In an editing software, we take the living and breathing world displayed around us
and by the internal world we hold in kinship, we create how we see. The world around us is then
changed on the screen to mirror the world within us. I am thankful to have had the opportunity to
explore the facets of technological use in regard to digital and video editing software.
The screen casting project enabled me to find that technology can serve as a helping hand, a
sweet tool I’ve been looking for, in furthering the growth of what I desire to do, what I desire to
share in life. I live in creating art. Thus, if ever I should be editing photos, drawing on my
computer, writing a poem, I now know I am able to use a website such as screencastto capture tis
creative process directly as it appears. And then to share it! And how simple this all was too.
Only to create an account, download the software, click record, act naturally, stop the recording
and share with the world. This was a wonderful project to exercise these three objectives.
In EDT 180, I was able to grow as a better participant in the world at my hand, before my eye.
The three course objectives being an, ‘approach new computer-based tasks more easily and
with greater confidence’, ‘describe key terms and concepts associated with computers and
software applications’, and ‘demonstrate your ability to use computer applications for
productivity, data analysis, and problem solving’, were great resource in teaching me to be
confident in something new, learning essential terms, and use tools for productive work. The
work here extends beyond the screen and into all living.
