OBTAINING A BALL TEST FILM
To verity proper reassembly and operation, a test film
must be taken prior to turning the system over to the
customer.
Requires: GX-PAN single ball test part number
112-0095G2 and Panelipse Il ball test
part number 46-169013G1, both avail
able separately or in GENDEX panoramic
alignment kit 46-197309G1. A 6”
(150 mm) scale calibrated in hundreths
is also required.
Due to the insensitivity of T-Mat G film to radiation,
screens mustbe used with this test. However, to obtain
a usable distortion-free image of proper density, you’
must follow the procedure as described below.
1. Fold the enclosed Lanex screen back to back
(the screen printing will face out) and place a
sheet of T-Mat G film against the outside of one
screen. Insert the screen and film, with film to
back of cassette. Make sure that both film and
screens are at bottom of cassette,
Using the manual rotation switch, rotate the tube
arm numerous times, leaving the tubehead at
one end of travel. NOTE: All subsequent test films
should be taken from this starting point.
Attach the cassette to the film drum with the
arrow pointing to the column.
Unlock the film drum lock and rotate until large
white line on cassette aligns with scribe line on
drum shield,
Install the Panelipse II Ball Test Fixture onto
the head positioner assembly using the posi-
tioner guide thumb screws.
Install the GX-PAN Ball Test Fixture onto the bite
guide holder so that it is resting on the Panelipse
II Ball Test Fixture.
Align the GX-PAN ball test center scribe line with
the Panelipse Il ball test center scribe line.
Place one brass ball on the GX-PAN ball test and
four brass balls on the Panelipse Il ball test. Do
not use the Panelipse Il center or outer end
holes. Also, place a small screw on the Panelipse
Il test fixture between the two brass balls on the
patient's right side,
9 Set kVp to 70.
44
10. While standing in a safe location at least 6 ft.
(2 m) from the x-ray of behind a protective barrier,
make an exposure, holding the exposure button
down for the full excursion
11. Using either manual or automatic processing
and maintaining proper darkroom procedures,
process the test film,
Check
fe Rod Location
12, Image of center ball should be round. Check by
measuring through center of ball both vertically
and horizontally. The measurement should be
equal within 1/32”. If not, proceed to next step.
13, Loosen bite guide bar set screw located on top
of head positioner.
A) Ifimage is narrow, move bite guide holder and
test fixture forward - away from column.
B) It image is wide, move bite guide holder and
test fixture back toward column,
NOTE: The amount of adjustment is trial and
error found by taking films and analyzing results,
Make small movements of about 1/16” between
films.
Check for Symmetry
Fold the film vertically through the center ball
with the center ball exactly halved.
14,
@. Check the end balls to see how close they lay
‘over the top of each other. They should super-
impose within 0.1" (254 mm). The end ball
images may not be round, however, this will not
affect the test results.
Check. the inside balls. They should super
impose within 0.05" (1.27 mm). The inside ball
images may not be round, however this will
not effect the test results.
Check the shadows on either side of the
center ball. They should superimpose within
0.1” (2.54 mm).
NOTE: If the Ball Test Film does not meet the
above specifications, complete the Mechanical
Alignment portion of the section.
15. If the Ball Test Film meets specifications, com-
plete the installation. Remember to fold the
intensifying screens back to their original
position,GENDEX CORPORATION

Mechanical Alignment
This section gives the corrections necessary should
the Ball Test Film not meet specifications. These
mechanical adjustments are sometimes needed due
to components not being reassembled after shipment
In the exact location as at the factory.
Requires: 6" (150 mm) scale calibrated in hundreths
GX-PAN ball test 112-0095G2
Panelipse 1 ball test 46-169013G1
Beam Bar 46-197102G2
or
Panoramic Alignment Kit 46-197309G1
1. Rotate the tube arm using the manual rotation
switch until the tubehead is near the front,
midway through its rotation. Continue rotating
the arm very small amounts until the shipping
bolt can be reinstalled,
Aluminum bridge removed
{or illustration purposes only.
2. Remove the GX-PAN test fixture, right side screw
and the brass balls from the Panelipse II test
platform. Install the beam bar between the cone
slit and the film drum slot. The bar should fall
between the red lines on the test fixture, close to
center and parallel to them.
45
33056-P10,
3. If the bar does not conform to specifications in
step 2, loosen the bolts on the underside of the
head positioner assembly. Move the head posi-
tioner and test fixture until the bar does fall
between the red lines as specified. Retighten
the bolts.
4. Remove the beam bar and shipping bolt. Repeat
ball test film procedure and analyze results. If
further adjustment is needed, proceed to step
6 and/or step 6.
Aligning the Head Positioner for
Symmetry of the Ball Test Film
5. * Fold the test film vertically through the center
ball with the center ball exactly halved
* Check the end balls to see how exactly they lay
over the top of each other. They should super-
impose ‘within .1” (2.54 mm). If they do not
superimpose within.1” (2.64 mm),check which
end ball is farthest from the center ball.
NOTE: Image of screw should indicate ball on
patient's right.
+ Rotate the tube arm and reinstall the shipping
bolt and beam bar.GENDEX CORPORATION
oe
+ To adjust for symmetry, move the head posi-
tioner in the direction of the end ball farthest
from the center ball. For example, if the right
end ball is farthest from the center ball, move
the head positioner and test fixture towards
the patient's right. The amount of adjustment
is trial and error found by taking test films and
analyzing results. Make very small move-
ments referencing the beam bar to the red
lines.
NOTE: The head positioner should only be
moved sideways, taking care to prevent the
fixture from moving front to back and/or twisting.
Aligning the Tubehead for
Symmetry of the “Ghost Shadows”
6
+ The shadows should be equally spaced on
either side of the center ball within 1" (2.54
mmm).
* If not, use the xray beam alignment pro-
cedures and move the beam slightly in the
direction the shadows need to move to be
equidistant. For example, if the shadows are
offset to the left and need to move right to be
symmetrical, move the beam slightly to the
right. NOTE: The adjustment at the tubehead
is very small. The beam does not have to be
exactly centered, but must remain within the
slot of the film drum shield,
After the ball test film meets specifications,
complete the installation.
If you are unable to achieve an acceptable ball
test film, contact GENDEX Technical Support.
