CS 253 – ALGORITHMS
GUIDELINES FOR PRESENTATIONS
- It will be a 15-minute PPT presentation (+2 minutes for switchover).
- You need to send your presentation (in PPT or PDF format) via E-Mail 3 hours prior to your
presentation time. Name the file with the last name of the first presenter.
- Your presentation will be stored in the folder “253-PRESENTATIONS-201Y” on my Desktop.
- Try to use 20-25 slides with as much figures and demonstrations as possible. Animations are highly
encouraged.
- First slide should have the title and the names of the group members.
- Group members should equally participate in the presentation. You are advised to hold at least one
mock presentation before your actual presentation time. Do not exceed your allotted time.
- Your presentation grade will be influenced by the following factors:
o How well is the subject area explained to the audience?
o How neat and informative are your slides? Are they readable and understandable?
o Are there enough slides used?
o Are enough number of figures and demonstrations used?
o Is the presentation completed within the allotted time (no more no less)?
o How relevant is the subject area to Algorithms?
o Did you stimulate interest in the subject area presented?
FORMAT FOR PROJECT REPORT
- It should be a 2-page (8.5 x 11) document in *.doc or .docx format.
- Submit one report per group. Use “[Link]” as the filename.
- Font size – 11pt. (Times New Roman)
- Line spacing = 1.5
- Standard 1 in. margins.
- Header should contain:
o Title (centered)
o Names of the group members (in 1 line)
o Abstract (less than 50 words).
Report Body should minimally contain the following sections:
- Introduction (minimum 400 words)
o You should introduce the subject area, talk about its importance (significance) from social and
business perspective, its impact in our daily lives, and the most current technological state
achieved in the subject area.
- How do algorithms knowledge help in this area? (min. 300 words)
o Talk about the relevance of algorithms in this area. What kind of algorithms can be used? Try to
be specific. Why do faster algorithms matter? Would space optimization also help? Try to argue
how better algorithms (i.e., faster, smaller, and more accurate) can help improve our lives.
