Taste vs. Nutrition: Finding Balance

Nutrition provides nourishment and energy from food, while taste is the flavor and sensation in the mouth. Some argue taste is more important as life is too short not to enjoy food. However, nutrition is essential for health, reducing disease risk, maintaining energy levels, and overall well-being. While taste encourages eating, nutrition should be the priority as junk foods can taste good but negatively impact health. A balanced diet considers both taste and nutrition for good health.

2. What is more important : taste or nutrition ?

a. Taste is more important : Many people think that life is too short to eat food
they don’t enjoy. So , they believe that taste is more important than nutrition.

- One reason that taste is important is that it prepare our bodies for digesting food . For
example, tasting and smelling food trigger our salivary glands and digestive "juices". Without
them, our stomachs wouldn't be ready for food, and we'd have trouble digesting food and
making use of the nutrients we get from food.

- The ability to taste is so crucial to the act of eating. Weight loss is common for people who
can't taste or smell their food for whatever reason. For some of us this may be desirable, but for
others it can lead to impaired immunity, poor nutritional status and the worsening of some
diseases.

b. nutrition is essential for your meal :Actually , nutrition is really

good for your body and health .

Your food choices each day affect your health — how you feel today, tomorrow, and in the future.
Good nutrition is an important part of leading a healthy lifestyle. Combined with physical activity, your
diet can help you to reach and maintain a healthy weight, reduce your risk of chronic diseases (like heart
disease and cancer), and promote your overall health.
Taste can fool your brain that it is good for you just because it is enjoyable to eat because of the
sensations, a great example are junk foods, a lot of people would agree that they taste amazing but the
effects of eating them causes a number of health problems . Taste is just the sensation of flavor
perceived in the mouth and throat on contact with a substance, while nutrition is the process of
providing or obtaining the essential foods necessary for your health and overall well-being.

3. Benefits: Therefore, when we choose food , we should pay attention to their

nutritional composition so that we can have a good nutrition .

Most people know good nutrition and physical activity can help maintain a healthy weight. But the
benefits of good nutrition go beyond weight. Good nutrition can help:

 Reduce the risk of some diseases, including heart disease, diabetes, and some cancers .
 Reduce high blood pressure
 Lower high cholesterol
 Improve your well-being
 Improve your ability to recover from illness or injury
 Increase your energy level

4. Balance between taste and nutrition :

Conclusion , taste of food is very important in stimulating our appetite. But besides that , nutrition is
always the first issue to have a good health. Therefore ,we should have a balance diet :

- Eat less fat

- Limit intake of sugars
- Reduce salt intake
- Eat plenty of vegetables and fruit
- Eat more fish
