Sequential Formation Testing (SFT)

This document discusses Halliburton's sequential formation testing tools which can gather quality formation data and measure wellbore and formation fluid pressures. The tools determine reservoir properties, identify boundaries, monitor intercommunication, and estimate permeability. The Selective Formation Tester precisely measures pressures and transmits data to the surface for analysis.

Sequential Formation Testing

Halliburton’s sequential formation testing tools gather the quality formation

data required to evaluate reservoir potential and plan well completions.
All parameters necessary for a successful test –accuracy, adaptability,
speed, and reliability— are designed into our test tools.
Our general Sequential Formation Testing Tool (SFTT™) uses a
Petroquartz pressure transducer to measures wellbore and formation fluid
pressure at any point in the well. The SFTT can also collect
representative fluid samples for up to two test depths in one trip.
 Determine reservoir pressure
 Identify gas and oil reservoir boundaries
 Monitor reservoir intercommunication
 Indicate areas of pressure depletion
 Estimate formation permeability
 Determine chemical concentrations and reservoir fluid properties
 Measure flow and shut-in pressures vs. time
The Selective Formation Tester IV (SFT-IV™) precisely measures well bore and formation fluid
pressure at any point in the well with the use of a Petroquartz transducer. The tool then transmits
the pressure data and its associated measurements to the surface via a Remote Telemetry Unit
(RTU) and the DITS Subsurface Telemetry Unit (DSTU).
 Pre-test does not start until operator gives the command, allowing:
o Verification of padset before starting pre-test
o Evaluation of mudcake properties from padset data
 Better response to pressure changes
 Provides improved temperature compensation and pressure measurement accuracy
 Reliable transducer operation – even under harsh borehole conditions
