REACTION PAPER ( PhilNIST and ITPEC )
Information Technology Professionals Examinations Council (ITPEC) is an organization
that assesses individuals who wants to take part in the Information Technology industry. It is
composed mainly of Asian countries, including the Philippines. Philippine National
Information Technology Standards (PhilNITS) is its examination implementing body.
It was confusing at first when reading the website, as it is stated there that PhilNITS was
first known as Japanese Information Technology Standards Examinations - Philippines (JITSE-
Phil). This brings an impression that it is originally an organization from Japan having a
headquarters in the Philippines. But, it became clearer as we continue reading about the
organization. It turns out that PhilNITS is a part of a bigger organization, ITPEC, which is
headed by Japan.
With regards to the examinations, they are a bit pricey. But, thinking deeper about its
benefits and for the future opportunities it can bring, it is worth a shot. The past results of the
examinations showed that there is a low passing rate which can make you think twice but on
the other hand, having a low passing rate means that passing the examinations has a higher
value that can make the risk worth it.
Reading the websites is enlightening as it gives us a proper step on what to do to have a
better career opportunities. As ECE students, one of the possible paths we can take is the IT
industry and having these certifications can improve our credentials and have better
opportunities.
IT RELATED JOB OPPORTUNITIES
IT consultant
An IT consultant is to be a technical specialist that focuses on integrating information
technology into businesses and showing clients how to use IT more efficiently to help reach
objectives and targets.
Education: A bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field.
MBA is advantageous.
Qualifications: Proficiency with database languages, excellent written and verbal
communication, good interpersonal skills, creative problem-solving skills, analytical mindset,
good time management and organizational skills.
Salary: ₱577,719 annually
Cloud architect
A Cloud Architect is responsible for converting the technical requirements of a project
into the architecture and design that will guide the final product. Often, Cloud Architects are
also responsible for bridging the gaps between complex business problems and solutions in
the cloud.
Education: A bachelor’s degree.
Qualifications: Relevant technical skills and knowledge can include the following: cloud
providers like Amazon Web Services (AWS); databases like MySQL; Java; open source
technologies like Redis and Docker; and OpenStack. In addition, should have strong
interpersonal skills, effective project management skills, and strong analytical abilities.
Salary: ₱1,330,375 annually
Computer forensic investigator
A Forensics Analyst retrieves and analyzes data, network traces and other evidence
from computers, networks and data storage devices. Those devices may be physically
damaged or corrupted, accidentally or intentionally. The results of the investigations might be
used as evidence in a criminal investigation, to resolve a business or legal dispute, to uncover
specific targets or to detect suspicious activity. The scope of the analysis can sometimes
cover many devices, including large amounts of data. At the conclusion of the investigation,
the Investigator prepares and delivers detailed reports, including testifying as to the results in
court, if required.
Education: Degree in computer forensics, information security or cyber security.
Certification from a computer examiner board also helps.
Salary: ₱420,187 annually
Health IT specialist
Health information technology specialists, also known as health information
technicians, are responsible for the management and organization of medical records and
databases. Using high-level software, they assign codes to particular medical procedures for
future analysis and insurance billing purposes. These specialists also handle the security of
sensitive health data. Most work in doctor's offices or other medical facilities.
Education: While some health IT jobs require only an associate degree and/or certification,
supervisory technician positions call for bachelor’s and master’s degrees.
Salary: ₱218,063 annually
Mobile application developer
Mobile app developer primary duty is to create, maintain and implement the source
code to develop mobile apps and programs that meet the needs and requirements of the
clients using the computer programming languages.
Education: A bachelor’s in software engineering, computer science, mobile computer or
related fields, according to TBS.
Salary: ₱528,936 annually
Web developer
A Web Developer is responsible for the coding, design and layout of a website
according to a company's specifications. As the role takes into consideration user experience
and function, a certain level of both graphic design and computer programming is necessary.
Education: TBS reports that the road to web design can be learned through accredited degree
programs, but many web developers are self taught and use their “portfolios” to win
positions.
Salary: ₱328,572 annually
Software engineer
A software engineer develops information systems by designing, developing, and
installing software solutions. It also determines operational feasibility by evaluating analysis,
problem definition, requirements, solution development, and proposed solutions. Solutions by
studying information needs, conferring with users, and studying systems flow, data usage,
and work processes. In addition, it improves operations by conducting systems analysis and
recommending changes in policies and procedures.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in software engineering or a related field is best.
Salary: ₱507,052 annually
Information technology vendor manager
IT vendor managers test and purchase software and technology for resale or use
within their organization. They review suppliers based on product quality, delivery reliability
and speed and price. They negotiate contracts, policies and corrective measures with vendors.
Education: Computer science degrees are helpful, but a deep understanding of business or
even an MBA could clinch a job.
Salary: ₱366,660 annually
Geospatial professionals
Assist scientists, technologists, or related professionals in building, maintaining,
modifying, or using geographic information systems (GIS) databases. May also perform
some custom application development or provide user support.
Education: Certificate programs and degrees both improve job outlook.
Salary: ₱280,000 annually
Data Modeler
Modelers are Systems Analysts who design computer databases that translate complex
business data into usable computer systems. It also works with data architects to design
databases that meet organizational needs using conceptual, logical, and physical data models.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, mathematics or IT – plus on-the-job
experience.
Salary: ₱420,000 annually
IT CERTIFICATIONS
Cisco Certified Entry Networking Technician (CCENT)
The CCENT certification validates the skills required for entry-level network
support positions, the starting point for many successful careers in networking. CCENT
certified professionals have the knowledge and skill to install, operate, and troubleshoot a
small enterprise branch network, including basic network security.
To earn the certification, you’ll need to complete the course Interconnecting Cisco
Networking Devices Part 1 (ICND1). It’s a five-day course that takes place in-person or
online and you’ll cover the fundamentals of network layers involved in routing and
switching. The course also covers firewalls, basic network security, wireless controllers
and access points. Once you complete the course, you’ll be ready to pass the CCENT
certification exam.
Exam fee: $125
Cisco Certified Technician (CCT)
The Cisco Certified Technician (CCT) certification verifies your abilities to
diagnose, restore, repair and replace critical Cisco networking and system devices at
customer sites. There are two different CCT paths you can choose from: data center or
routing and switching.
The CCT Data Center certification covers support and maintenance of Cisco Unified
Computing systems and server. It’s targeted at field support engineers working with Cisco
data center system devices and software. You’ll need to take the course Supporting Cisco
Data Center System Devices (DCTECH) v2.0 before you can pass the exam. The course
covers data center networking fundamentals, field servicing and equipment replacement
and how to identify Cisco Unified Computing System (UCS) component models,
accessories cabling and interfaces.
The CCT Routing and Switching certification covers on-site support and
maintenance of Cisco routers, switches and operating environments. It’s designed for on-
site technical support and other support staff who work with Cisco Data Center Solutions.
Before you can take the exam, you’ll need to take the course Supporting Cisco Routing and
Switching Network Devices (RSTECH). The online self-paced course covers networking
fundamentals, Cisco outer and switch models, Cisco IOS software operating modes and the
Cisco command line interface (CLI).
Exam fee: $125 per exam
Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) Routing & Switching
The CCNA Routing and Switching certification is a good option for those who
want to work in networking, but also a solid choice if you’re looking for an entry-level help
desk position. The exam verifies your ability to identify Cisco router and switch models,
accessories, cabling and interfaces. You’ll need an understanding of the Cisco IOS
Software operating modes and the Cisco CLI.
Before you can take the certification exam, you’ll need to take the course Supporting Cisco
Routing and Switching Nework Devices. It’s a self-paced online course that includes up to
six hours of on-demand training materials that you can access for up to one year.

CompTIA IT Fundamentals+ (ITF+)
The CompTIA IT Fundamentals+ (ITF+) certification is designed for those
interested in starting a career in IT or who want to change career paths. The exam is
intended to validate your foundational knowledge in IT and to give you a better idea of
what it’s like to work in IT. The certification exam covers networks, infrastructure, IT
concepts and terminology, applications and software, security, database fundamentals and
software development. It’s also a good starting point if you want to continue down the
CompTIA certification path, but it’s not a requirement for other certifications.
Exam fee: $119
Comp TIA A+
The CompTIA A+ certification is targeted at support specialists, field service
technicians, desktop support analysts and help desk support. If you’re interested in landing
a job in a related field, it’s a solid entry-level certification that is well-regarded in the
industry.
The certification verifies your ability to troubleshoot and solve problems with networking,
operating systems, mobile devices and security. The certification focuses on nine major IT
skills, including hardware, networking, mobile devices, Windows operating system,
hardware and network troubleshooting, operating system technologies, software
troubleshooting, security and operational procedures.
Exam fee: $211
CompTIA Network+
The CompTIA Network+ is an entry-level certification that covers networking
concepts, troubleshooting, operations, tools and security as well as IT infrastructure. The
certification is designed for junior network administrators, network field technicians, junior
system engineers, IS consultants and network field engineers.
The exam verifies your knowledge with configuring, managing and maintaining network
devices, implementing and designing functional networks, network troubleshooting and
network security. If you know you want to work closely with IT networks, it’s a well-
recognized and worthwhile certification that will set you apart from other entry-level
candidates.
Exam fee: $302
CompTIA Security+
Security is a crucial IT skill for any technology role, so it’s a good idea to earn your
CompTIA Security+ certification at the entry-level. It’s suited for network, system and
security administrators, security specialists, junior IT auditors, security consultants and
security engineers.
The exam covers threats, attacks and vulnerabilities, risk management, architecture and
design, technology and tools, cryptography and PKI and identity and access management.
Earning your Security+ certification will show employers you have the skills to install and
configure systems to keep applications, networks and devices secure in accordance with
compliance laws.
Exam fee: $330
Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA)
The Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA) certification covers IT fundamentals
like infrastructure, databases and development. It was designed by Microsoft as an entry-
level certification for workers just starting out in IT or for those looking to change careers.
The exam is meant to help you establish your career track in IT, with a focus on databases,
hardware, software or infrastructure. It covers what you’ll need to know as a Junior IT
Auditor or as a systems, network or security administrator.
Exam fee: Varies by location
Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA)
The Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA) certification is another entry-
level option from Microsoft that covers designing and creating technology solutions across
Microsoft’s services and software suites. It’s a little more advanced than the MTA
certification, but you don’t need to complete your MTA to earn your MCSA. However, you
will need to earn your MCSA if you want to continue down the Microsoft certification path
to earn your MCSE, MCSD, MCPS or MCT certifications.

PMI Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)
The Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) certification is a widely-
recognized entry-level certification for project management offered through the Project
Management Institute (PMI). You don’t necessarily have to be a project manager to get
your CAPM — plenty of IT jobs require project management skills to oversee technical
projects.
You’ll need at least 23 hours of project management education completed before you can
take the exam — but you can accomplish that through PMI’s Project Management Basics
course. The course is designed by PMI to prepare you for the CAPM certification exam —
it covers project management basics and skills you’ll need for an IT project management
job.
Exam fee: $225 for members; $300 for non-members
Course fee: $400 for non-members; $350 for members.
