SIFCON: Advanced Fiber Reinforced Concrete

SIFCON (Slurry Infiltrated Fibrous Concrete) is a type of fiber reinforced concrete that contains a large amount of low tensile strength steel fiber. It is produced using a method that differs from ordinary fiber reinforced concrete, where the steel fibers are pre-formed into a mat that is then infiltrated with a low viscosity cementitious slurry. SIFCON has extraordinary toughness and surpassing mechanical characteristics, including high compressive strength and ductility. It has potential for many applications in the building industry.

SIFCON

Abstract
Slurry Infiltrated Fibrous Concrete (SIFCON) is a special type of fiber reinforced concrete
(FRC) which have large amount of fiber. SIFCON stands for slurry infiltrated fibrous
concrete with higher amount of low tensile strength steel fibre. SIFCON is a new
technique to increase the strength of concrete. It is an improvement over fiber
reinforced concrete. Slurry infiltrated fibrous concrete is a relatively new high performance
& advanced material which can be considered as a special type of Steel Fibrous
Reinforced Concrete (SFRC). SIFCON is a type of fibre reinforced concrete (FRC) but it is
produced by using a method which is very different from ordinary fibre reinforced
concrete. It is a special kind of steel fiber-reinforced cement composite which has extraordinary
toughness values and surpassing mechanical characteristics like compressive, tensile, shear, and
flexural [Link] differs from conventional steel-fiber-reinforced concrete (SFRC) in which the
steel fibers are added directly to a typical concrete mix in the ratio of 0. 5 to 1. 5 percent by
volume. The fiber bed is infiltrated with a low viscosity cementitious slurry. SIFCON have high
compressive strength as well as ductility. It has the potential for many applications in the
building industry.
