METHODS AND PROCEDURES
This chapter presents the researchers design, population and locale of the study,
instrumentation/sources of data, analysis /treatment of data and ethical consideration.
Research Design
The descriptive research design will be used by the researchers in this study. Descriptive
research design is one which involves observing and describing the behavior of a subject without
influencing it in any way. This design is deemed to be the most appropriate design since it sought
to determine the implementation of TCMP in Batangas Provincial Jail through evaluation of
factual data obtained from the use of survey questionnaires.
The researchers will also be using the qualitative and quantitative methods of research as
they will describe the findings, analysis and interpretation of data both in textual and statistical
approaches.
Population and Locale of the Study
The researchers had chosen the inmates of Dagupan City Jail as their respondent. They
were chosen in order to determine the implementation of the Therapeutic Community Modality
Program in Dagupan City Jail. The researchers will conduct a research in Bureau of Jail
Management and Penology (BJMP) Dagupan City, Pangasinan. The primary sources of
data will be taken from the questionnaires answered by the inmates of Dagupan City Jail as the
respondents of the study. Secondary sources will be gathered from books, thesis/dissertations,
journals, internet, etc. relevant to the study.
Instrumentation/Sources of data
The research instrument will be prepared on the basis of the problems posited in
the study. The research instrument to be used by the researchers will be questionnaires
which contains three (3) parts.
The first part of the questionnaire deals with the common activities of the TCMP
being implemented in Dagupan City Jail as perceived by the respondents. The second part
contains the list of problems encountered in the implementation of the TCMP as perceived
by the respondents. The third part consists of the level of willingness of the respondents to
participate in the TCMP being implemented in Dagupan City Jai. Upon approval
of the research title, the researchers will prepare questionnaires on the basis of problems
posited in the study. Thereafter, the researchers will make request letters to conduct
research signed by their Thesis Adviser, Thesis Professors, Dean of College of Criminology,
Research Director, and Vice President for Academic Affairs.
After the request letters are approved, copies of questionnaires will be distributed
by the researchers immediately to the respondents. Furthermore, the researchers
will prepare letters for the respondents and right after the researchers signed them, they
will float the questionnaires for the respondents to answer. The researchers patiently waited
until the very last questionnaire was answered. Thereafter, all the filled up questionnaires
were retrieved personally by the researchers. The data gathered from the questionnaires
will be collated, tallied, analyzed and interpreted using the appropriate statistical tool in
order to answer the problems.
Data Analysis/Treatment of Data
To answer problems number 1, 2, the percentage formula to be used is:

Ethical Considerations
Respondents have participated in the survey voluntarily and have been fully
informed by the researchers about the aims and objectives of the study. Texts belonging to
other authors that have been used in any part of this study have been fully referenced and
the questionnaires did not contain any degrading, discriminating or any other unacceptable
language that could be offensive to any members of the sample group. Lastly, the
questionnaire has been designed to collect information directly related to the research
questions, and no private or personal questions were asked from respondents.
