INTRODUCCION
This diccionary illustraded in English is to approach in to
give know some disease of the oral cavity, to gather in a
discipline “the oral patology” that to focus in the knowledge
of the diseases that afecct the structure and the function of
the hard and soft tissues that to make up the masticatory,
salivating and tegumentary systems of the mouth, which are
togheter called stomatognathic system.
The aim of this report is to learn about the didactic way
words in English are related to the career that we study,
odontology, specially the oral patology.
Acanthosis gingival [acantosis]: lesión histologically
characterized by hypertrophy of the body mucous.
Ageusia [ageusia]: A loss or impairment of the sense of taste.
Amelogenesis imperfect [amelogenesis imperfecta]: A severe
hypoplasia or agenesis of enamel that is inherited as a dominant
characteristic.
Anodontism [anodoncia]: The failure of teeth to form; may be
partial or complete.
Aptha, apthae [afta]: A small ulcer on the mucous membrane
Bruxism [bruxismo]: involuntary action of tightening the tooth.
Calculus dental [calculo dental, sarro]: A salivary deposit of
calcium phosphate and carbonate with organic matter on the
teeth or on a dental prosthesis.
Candidiasis [candidiasis]: It is an infection produced by the
mushroom candida albicans.
Concrescence [concrescencia]: The union of two teeth after
eruption, by the fusion of their cementum surfaces.
Cleft labial [labio hendido]: They happen when the fabric that forms the
palate and the top lip they do not join before the birth.
Dentigerous, follicular cyst [quiste dentigero]: An epithelium-
lined sac filled with fluid or semifluid material that surrounds the
crown of an unerupted tooth or odontoma.
Diastem [diastema]: An abnormal space between two adjacent
teeth in the same dental arch.
Epulis [epulis]: A tumor of the gingiva.
Fluorosis dental [fluorosis dental]: Hipomineralización of the
dental enamel for increase of the porosity. It owes to an excessive
ingestion of Fluorine during the development of the enamel
before the eruption.
Gemination [geminacion]: Broad teeth, with a crown divided
partially or two separated crowns
Gingivitis [gingivitis]: inflammation of the gums surrounding the
teeth.
Glossitis [glositis]: An inflammation of the tongue.
Halitosis [halitosis]: Oral health disorder characterized by bad
breath.
Leukoplakia, leuKokeratosis [leucoplasia]: A disease of the
mucous membranes of the mouth(cheeks, gums or tongue) with a
tendancy of becoming malignant , it starts as white patches, can
take the form of ulcers and may cause pain while swallowing or
speaking.
Macrodontia, megalodontism [macrodoncia, megalodoncia]:
Abnormally large teeth. One, several, or all teeth in a given
individual may be involved
Microdontia [microdoncia]: Abnormally small teeth. The term
may apply to one, several, or all the teeth of a given individual.
Mucocele, mucous retention [mucocele, quiste mucoso]: An
epithelium-lined sac containing mucus. Mucous cysts in the sinus
may appear as spherical, radiopaque areas.
Parotitis [parotiditis]: Inflammation of the parotid gland
Plaque dental [placa dental]: Thin and soft accumulation of
food remains, mucina and cells epiteliales dead, that forms a good
way for the development of the bacteria.
Prognathism[prognatismo]:facial disharmony in which one or
both jaws project forward.
Pulpitis [pulpitis]: An inflammation of the pulpal tissue of a
tooth. Provoked principally by caries and traumatism toothworts.
Taurodontism [taurodontismo]: A tooth in which the pulp
chamber is elongated and enlarged, and extends deeply into the
region of the roots. A similar condition is seen in the teeth of cud-
chewing animals
Tooth decay [caries dentaria]: An infectious disease with
progressive destruction of tooth substance, beginning on the
external surface by demineralization of enamel or exposed
cementum.
Tooth rotate [diente rotado]: An altered position of the tooth in
relation to the adjacent and opposing teeth and its basal alveolar
process.
Xerostomia, dry mouth [xerostomia]: Dryness of the mouth
resulting from functional or organic disturbances of the salivary
glands and lack of the normal secretion, primarily caused by
prescribed medications.
