K to 12 Curriculum Analysis in Philippines

The document discusses the K-12 curriculum in the Philippines and the shift from a teacher-centered approach to a more student-centered one. It notes that teachers now play a guiding role for students rather than being the sole focus of learning. The new curriculum allows students more opportunities to interact with each other and collaborate, recognizing that individuals learn in different ways. The student-centered approach customizes education for each child's learning style through interaction rather than lectures alone. While the country is still refining the K-12 system, a learner-centered method guided by teachers could provide the foundation for improved education outcomes.

We, teachers or a future teachers, are the one who was sent to be a guide of our student.
We play a vital role to hone our students into their fullest potentials. Previously, the curriculum
is a teacher-centered wherein the teacher is the center of learning. They have the choice what to
teach. But, as the new curriculum is implemented in our country, from the teacher-centered
approach, the curriculum becomes a student-centered approach. Herein, the student has given an
opportunity to interact with each other.
In the 21st century, instead of focusing on the teacher, focus on the student. Learners have
different way of learning. As a teacher, we need to identify it in able to give best instructions to
them. Instead of delivering a 1-size-fits-all, customize education to fit the child’s individual style
of learning. Instead of lecturing, interacts with student and help them to discover the best from
them. Instead of isolating students, let them collaborate with their classmates because, I believe
that collaboration is one of the best way of learning.
Our country today is still on the trial and error process. But I think, learner-centered
approach will be the key for a better education as long as the teacher guides his/her student.
