CHAPTER 1
THE PROBLEM AND ITS SCOPE
INTRODUCTION
Patriotism holds the nation together. It is the feeling of constructive and
wholesome love for one’s people and land. When people love their country, they love
being part of that nation. It is extremely important for any country to instill in their people
a feeling that motivates them to take an active part in the development and growth of
their country. The Philippines had lost a sense of nationhood particularly among youth.
They are easily captured to the things around them. Now and then, the taste of music,
television dramas and even to their fashion styles has changed. From schools, malls,
stores, transportations and even recreational places like parks, the influence of Korean
Entertainment in the Filipino especially to the Filipino youth are widespread. You can
notice that students are listening and singing songs of different language. That is
Korean language even though they don’t know the meaning of it.
As far this concern, Saint Paul University Dumaguete, our beloved school located
Bantayan, Dumaguete City have students who loved Korean Entertainment so much.
Songs, dramas, and even Korean fashions had been part of their lives. It has been
stated by (Benetha Huera, 2013) that K-POP invasion in the Philippines really affects
the OPM industry in four major aspects; album sales, organization of concerts,
originality of music and popularity.

Review on Related Literature
This section presents a review of related literature and studies which is
directly related to this work.
Patriotism
People quite commonly invoke love when asked what patriotism amounts to: the
patriot is one who loves his country (Margaret Gilbert, 2014). She is also stated that this
idea is reflected informal conversations, in dictionaries and theoretical discussions. One
problem she cited is that the meaning of love is notoriously unclear if indeed it means
any one thing. In the present context, the pertinent question is precisely what, if
anything can be made of the innovation of love as associated with patriotic acts and
more strongly, as essential to them.
Patriotic motive
Patriotism is broadly recognized by the youth nowadays. As emphasized by
(Gilbert, 2014), one might start by emphasizing that acting on behalf of one’s country is
to be distinguished from acting in favor for one’s country’s institutions, goals, values and
so on. So to act behalf of one’s country, however, is not necessarily to act on its behalf.
Having clarified what she understands by it “she sticks with the briefer “on behalf of””.
On a statement by (Twain, 2015), there are three major fears that patriots
of today need to overcome if they want to unify and strengthen this country into a strong
and healthy community. Fear of responsibility, Fear of reality, Fear of criticism

Foreign Studies
In the study established by (Chang and Fu, 2016), their studies suggests
that the influences of Korean Entertainment may be subtle that the viewers are unaware
of them. Korean drama for example, makes some people addicted with the drama
because the director written the story unpredictable. Another reason why teens love to
watch these dramas is because it is not far to be there everyday life scenes.
In other study by (Tobing, 2015) Korean dramas also affects the fashion
lifestyle of the viewers. We usually see many girls who wear hot pants. Another effect
also is that Korean dramas make some people love their culture.
By a study conducted by (Han and Lee, 2010), with the world’s attention
captured by entertainment phenomenon, diverse aspects of K-drama viewer’s lives
have been influenced them to organize fan meetings, start studying the Korean
language and culture, and visit Korea. Another study by (Hanaki et Al, 2007), fans of
KPOP also report an increase of behaviors such as studying in Korean, using Korean
words in conversations, and cooking Korean food.
