Changing is essential.

This is perfectly encapsulated in the words of theorists Charles Darwin, “It is not
the strongest who will survive but those who can best manage change.”

In today’s business context, managers are required to encourage workers participation in goal setting so
as to provide a more diverse and thorough discussion of issues affecting their business performance. ( )
In this way, managers will have more source of information needed for development of business
strategies.

Collaborative managers insure that each and every worker is involved in the planning phase of business
strategies so as to allow the workers have the sense of accomplishment and responsibility in obtaining
the goals set by them. In this way, each workers will be able to self-actualized in accordance with
Maslow’s Hierarch of Needs . ( )

Also, as collaborative managers, they must employ a three- step process of changing their business
strategies in relation to the dynamic, confusing and complex external environment. The steps are:

(1) Environmental scanning – this happens when managers gather as much as information
about political, economic, legal, technology, environmental, legal, and social factors of their business
industry

(2) Interpreting environmental factors - different management and marketing theories must be
used to interpret the data and subsequently create action plan to address the effect of these factors
