Links Between Achievement and self esteem

The objective of this research is to point out that the achievement that an individual

makes often affect their self esteem. The mere idea of successfully being good at a certain thing

can definitely boost one’s confidence and motivate them to do better. It is said that those two

are fundamentally linked. some researches justify this study just like the Shavelson’s Model of

of self esteem which indicates that achievements within a given subject area directly lead first to

development of self esteem in that area. On the other hand, other research ( Covington, 1984)

says that the students in high school often increase achievement standard compared to those

students in lower grades and this has impact upon their self esteem.

There are plenty of research that can support this study, nevertheless, the main point of

all those researches is that achievement in certain things can boost one’s confident.

Links between motivation and self esteem

Motivation is a fundamental aspect of an individuals’s life an influences when and how

effectively tasks are performed. some studies have demostrated that higher motivation tend to

increase the percentage of success to the internal cause of ability and effort and failure to

external causes (Ames & Ames; Frieze & Weiner, 1971; Marsh, Relich & Smith, 1983; Weiner

& Kukla, 1970; Weinberg & Jackson 1979)

To sum it up, motivation and self esteem can both aid and hinder us to perform at a
