Vastu-Compliant House Design Overview

This document provides a site plan and details for a house design in India. The orientation of the house was changed from east-west to conform with vastu shastra principles. The plan separates activities and allows for future expansion onto the bedroom and study room core. The front portion over the kitchen and sitout is temporary and can be demolished later. Elevations show filler slabs, brick piers, and precast window frames. Sections provide rebar and foundation details.

Location
Previously the house was located
away from the main road so that
future expansion may be possible.
Now as the orientation has been
changed the house has been pushed
towards the main road so that there
may be space for the future
expansion.

Orientation
Originally the house was oriented in the east west direction
with the entry facing the main road. The fact that this
orientation did not confirm with the Vastu shastra was
pointed out by the Vice president of the Panchayat board,
who then convinced the beneficiary Mr. Krishnan that it
would be in his best interest to change the orientation
according to vastu shastra.
Now rather than having the entry at main road, we how
have the entry from the 6” concrete path.

STEPS

The plan of the house is designed in such a way that all activities are independent and the circulation pattern does not interfere with one another.
The bedroom and the study room form the core house, this is doing to remain constant and in future when the house expands it will be added on to this.
The front portion of the house of the house is temporary in nature so that it can be demolished for future addition.
ELEVATION
The front portion of the house- the kitchen and sit out serve to entertain the visitors without affecting the activities of the household.
The kitchen was initially designed with one door at the entrance. Mr. Krishnan (beneficiary) wanted to use the door salvaged from the demolished house to provide another
entry for the kitchen.
He wanted the door to be located on the northern side. This was avoided since placing the door in the direction would increase the circulation space and would drastically cut
down the working space.
The house is at two levels; the front portion is at +. 45 level and the core house is at +. 60 level. Though as storm water drain has been built, the house is raised to prevent
the entry of the water during rainy season.
The front portion of the house was initially designed as a tiled roof, later it was changed due to various reasons like:
 Safety
 Cost and quality of the tiles and wood.
It was decided that we would cast the filler slab over the front portion of the house.
 This filler slab would be lesser in thickness than the one over the core house.
 The filler slab is to be cast with a single tile.
 The filler slab will be at lintel level.
