Duties and Responsibilities of Pipe Fitter
Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned) • Read blueprints and specification to determine
the scope of work: locations, quantities, and material specs. • Selects type and size of pipe, and
related materials and equipment according to specifications • Cuts, threads, bends and assembles
the pipes. • Prepare, cut, fabricate, layout, fit, position, and assemble piping components together
in various positions. • Bolt, clamp, and tack-welds parts to secure in position for welding. •
Install hangers, supports, valves and components according to piping system plans and
specifications. • Perform leak tests to ensure the quality of the pipe and the piping systems. •
Proper identification and use of tools required for tasks. (grinders, drills, beveling machine, etc.)
• Operate forklifts & overhead cranes. • Hoist loads using slings, chains, shackles, hooks, cables,
and other rigging equipment. • Maintain safe and clean work environment. Requirements: •
Demonstrated industrial construction/maintenance experience. • Ability to read prints and
construction drawings. • Must understand how to read and interpret technical manuals in order to
determine work procedures such as ISO’s and blueprints • Ability to read and interpret technical
manuals and manufacturers manuals and instructions. • Must have 4+ years’ experience with
pipe fitting processes. • Ability to take detailed instruction. • Positive “can do” attitude, strong
work ethic and a team player. • Good problem solving abilities, communication skills, aptitude
and manual dexterity. • Ability to work with minimum supervision. • Must be able to read &
understand weld symbols, weld procedures, mechanical and structural drawings
Able to understand clearly the basics of Engineering drawing and how to make simple drawing.
Able to draft and illustrate a pipe line system. Read the pipe chart , technical details etc Ability to
prepare the bill of materials for doing the pipe line fabrication. PC5. Understand blue print
reading including standard symbols used in plumbing and also different piping lines and valves
used in plumbing. Read and interpret hangers and support drawing. Mathematical skills with
respect to plumbing Mathematics –Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and their
applications Basic knowledge on area, volume, angles and length Calculate length and diameter
of the pipe system using the metric system as well as English system.. Calculate dimensions of
the bend required in plumbing. Knowledge on different types of materials used in plumbing

material and their workability
Understand the different bends, elbows, shapes, joints etc used to fabricate the pipes. Identify
and discriminate different types of nuts, bolts, screws, clamps, fixtures etc. used in plumbing.
Able to understand the different packing materials, adhesives, gaskets, o ring, ropes etc. and how
to cut gaskets using a cutting machine. Install and check for the functions of different types of
valves, gauges and other related accessories. Identify the tools and tackles that are required to
carry out the assigned job Knowledge and ability to use different hand tools and power tools in
