ASSIGNMENT
SUB: BASIC ELECTRONICS B.E II/IV Mech-B YEAR: 2017-18
CO:1:-1.a) Differentiate between conductors, insulators and semiconductors (P-type, N-type) by
drawing energy level diagrams. [5M]
b) Explain Hall Effect in semiconductor. [5M]
2. Explain the working principle of P-N junction diode in forward and reverse bias.
Draw the characteristic curves. Diode can work as a switch .Justify. [10M]

3.a) Explain the working of a Full wave rectifier with a neat circuit diagram. Derive its
d.c load current, RMS output current and ripple factor. Compare three rectifier circuits. [6M]
3.b) A full wave rectifier uses diodes with forward resistance of 10Ω each. The secondary
of the transformer is center tapped with output voltage 12-0-12V (r.m.s) and has a resistance of
5Ω for each half winding. Determine the i) D C voltage when the load current is 100 mA. ii)
Peak inverse voltage iii) No load dc voltage and iv) Ripple factor [4M]
