Global Warming and Greenhouse Gases

The document discusses global warming and its causes and effects, including rising average temperatures on Earth leading to changes in environments. It also discusses the greenhouse effect and how burning fossil fuels and deforestation contribute to greenhouse gases, while planting more trees can help reduce greenhouse gases.

SECOND YEAR

The people on earth face a major role problem called global warming. Global warming occurs when
the average temperatures in many places on earth rise. Environments will change as a result of this.
Farming areas may be too hot to raise crops. Many parts of the earth will dry up forming deserts. Icebergs
may melt causing the oceans to rise and flood many coastal areas. Although this may take several years to
happen, it is bound to happen.

We get energy from the sun in the form of heat. The extra heat should bounce from the earth into
space. This does not happen when the earth’s atmosphere is full of polluted gases. The extra heat is
trapped inside causing the average temperature to rise.

The extra heat trapped above the earth is called the greenhouse effect. If ever you had sat inside a
bus on a warm and sunny day with all windows closed, you have experienced the greenhouse effect are
greenhouse gases.

The greenhouse gases come from many sources. They come from fuel being burned in industrial
plants. Oil and gasoline used in motor vehicles give off greenhouse gases. Even the wood used in cooking
increases the greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.

Trees reduce the amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Trees use the carbon dioxide,
one of the greenhouse gases in making their own food. They give off clean air oxygen. Another way to
reduce the amount of greenhouse gases is to plant more trees.
