Universal Design for Learning (UDL):
Engagement: The students in the classroom will be engaged with this activity because they can come
together as a class and chart their own thoughts and ideas on what is farm animals are verses what sea
animals are. This tool will help the student differentiate between these two topics. This certain assignment
can be projected to the students as a group project or even assigned as a homework assignment where their
parents can help them out with the map and organizing where each of the animals belong in which group.
Representation: It will be represented in the classroom on the smartboard, this website will be accessible to
the students and their parents as well from home. The students and the teachers can work on it together as
well as the parents and their children can work on it and organize the map together.
Action and Expression: The students will come up with at least one or two item for each category on their
own. The students will be allowed to say what they want in which group, point out what image they want in
which map, or even allowed to type up what they each topic what section.
Lesson idea implementation:
First the teacher will introduce the topic by asking each student what their favorite animal is? Then
will continue to teach them the difference between farm animals and sea animals to the students. Teacher
will show flash cards of images of the different animals that tend to live on the farm. She will then proceed
using the same flash card image concept, by showing her students the different animals that live in the sea.
The educator will then will use the classroom interactive SMART board to pull up a [Link] chart. She will use
the smart board pen and make two charts, one for the farm animals, and one for the sea animals. Teacher will
call on students in the classroom to name few animals they learned about when reviewing the flash cards.
Each student will be encouraged to put at least one animal under both the topics. Then the teacher will then
show a video regarding the farm animals and the sea animals. (The link is provided in the URL section)
The closing of the lesson plan will be used to inform the students in the classroom that they know the
difference between farm animals and sea animals. This lesson will be extended by each students having as
home assignment which includes coming up with their own little farm vs. sea animals chart with the help of

their siblings or parents, the chart will include drawings instead of writing the word down. The student are
encouraged to bring the map back into the classroom the next day and share it within their groups in their
classroom. The teacher will then post their art work on the bulleting board for other students, parents and
teacher to view.
Reflective Practice: This activity can impact the student learning by introducing them to evaluate and
differentiate between two different topics. I believe this lesson can be further extended by having the
students find two different topics and comparing those two topics and allowing them to share them with their
classmates by using either images or words of their choice. Another technology that would help extend this
lesson plan might be sing-along video where the children are able to name different farm animals and sea
animals.
