He had a sad early life, becoming the head of his family at a young age after his father died. Bolívar found success as a soldier and politician, helping several South American countries gain independence from Spain. He died of tuberculosis in 1830 and is still seen as having helped liberate South America.

Simón José Antonio de la Santísima Trinidad Bolívar Palacios Ponte y Blanco was
born in Caracas on July 24, 1783 and died in St. Martha on December 17, 1830, better
known as Simón Bolívar, was a Venezuelan soldier and politician, founder of the
republics of Gran Colo Bolivia. It helped to inspire and decisively realize the
independence of the present Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela.
In January 1786, when Simon counted two years of age, his father died of
tuberculosis, and so conception remained as head of the family, watching efficiently for
the interests of the family until his death.
