Phrases or clauses must be parallela in form when they are in a


series or when they are joined by a conjunction. i.e. If there is one
verb with –ing or with a who-clause, then all of the verbs must have
–ing or must be in the form of a [Link] there is a
comparison, use the comparison words as a hint for parallela
construction. Incorrect: The police came to arrest Jones, a devout
church-goer who also belongs to the fraternal order of the eagles.

Correct: The police came to arrest Jones, a devout church-goer and


a member of the fraternal order of the [Link] sentence
matches an appositive “a devout church-goer” with a “who”-clause.

Also maintain parallelaism with correlative conjunctions such as:


either/ or, neither/ nor and not only/ but also.
