After reading the article, the concept and ideas that I found difficult to
understand is the concept about eugenics. I think it is because I do not know that
terminology that much. Thus, I can say that with the context of the concept I can
somewhat understand what it really means, so I think the article is not that difficult to
understand.
Before reading the article, I think that my perception about Science being a
“hope” for human to improve the way of living will eventually change after I read this
article because as mentioned in the title given for us to look for the article, this article
will be arguing whether science is dangerous. So it will be basically spilling the tea
about science’s dark side. I think my understanding about science and its connection to
technology will be change in reading this article. So, after reading this article I learned
that when science is applied in technology there are some dangers, problems or an
ethical issue that will arise. Which is I think is very accurate. Like in today’s life mobile
phone was invented, wherein the discoveries that people need that mainly for
communicating, so technology created mobile phone, but the danger and ethical issues
arisen after it was created and was produced to public. We have problems such as
people exposing into radiation which may cause health problems while in the ethical
issues we had mobile hacking that can lead to invasion of privacy. Next one that I
learned is that scientists are full of knowledge but lacks in wisdom and social
responsibility. Because of their eagerness on finding another ideas and finishing their
researches they tend to do anything, no matter what consequences it will give them. It is
somewhat scary to know that because of researches or the knowledge that they acquire
they tend to “play like God” because I think they think that they were “all knowing”
.Another one that I have learned is about, cloning and in vitro fertilization. I learned that
these three ideas are not bad at all but also it is not good as we thought it was. The
good thing about this focuses a lot to those people who wants a child that are not
blessed on having one. I have learned that it will not be good when cloning a child
because there will be no genetic relation between the mother and the child same as in
vitro fertilization it that sometimes lead to mistreatment and uncaring of the child
because of the absence of genetic relationship. They are deciding who can get a child
and who will have a child. I can say that main issue in these is that if they did one of
these they are “playing like God”.
I wanted to and discuss more about the concept of eugenics because It is about
an idea on “breeding out” us humans to acquire our desired traits. I want to clarify my
mind about this idea because I was shocked because for me it is an unacceptable idea.
